Zeal or Smite

I am making a pally just for the purpose of clone hunting. I've heard that they can take out the clone within a minute. The thing is that I'm not sure what build is better, because I have never made a successfull melee pally. Some people tell me use zeal/fanta because with crushing blow, you will be able to hit him alot more often doing good damage. Others tell me use Smite because it never misses. Which one is better? And what gear would I need for it?

Smite is awsome against DC and pvp, because it always hit and can have have crushing blow and other things added to the attack like curses, open wound etc.. Put on dracul's grasp and you'll murder DC in seconds w/o getting hurt. All you need is a good dmg shield like upped HoZ and good resist and you'll be good to go.

If your crushing blow is maxed at 95%... the bulk of your damage will come from there initially... once he is down low on health is when your main attack becomes more important and crushing blow less.... in this case... because crushing blow is doing the bulk of the work.... wouldn't just 1 point to smite be plenty? (i'm assuming there would be some +skills gear). I have never used smite, so i'm not speaking from exp... i'm just bringing this up as a point... maybe somebody who knows for sure could say.... but if you are using crushing blow to do the bulk of the work, I think what's important is hitting Uber D... smite hits him every time... but zeal hits faster (if it hits)... I guess depending on your AR, it could be a toss-up?

And you seriously gotta think about why it's important to pick the 'fastest' of the two anyway. I mean, it's not like MF runs where speed is a big thing and 2 minutes is double the items found then 4 minutes... this is Uber D... just getting him to spawn is gonna be where all the time is spent (although, I guess it would be pretty cool to say you whoooped him in 'x' time and nobody else can do it quicker)

with a high lvl of smite and a upped hoz u wont need to worry about finishing him off. (smite + fanat)

Resist isn't needed I soloed him with -10 (in that general area) on all my resists, any amount of crushing blow with life tap and hes dead. My friends barb beat him with IK set from the CB on the maul....

When i was making a zeal pally to hunt dclone, some random guy told me not to use zeal and to use smite instead. He claimed to have made a pally built entirely on smite that defeated dclone in 8 seconds. Can someone explain to me how this works? I dont see what maxing smite and holy shield help to kill dclone. I though all the dmg came from crushing blow and the rest is done by regular damage. i have a good smite and holy shield level on one of my pallys with an upped hoz and concentrate on. The smite damage was only 800. I dont know how that will kill dclone easier than with zeal.

Holy Shield adds damage to your shield. Without max holy shield you wont be doing much damage.

Max Holy Shield + Max Smite + Upped HoZ + High% Crushing Blow = D-Clone dead in less then 15 secs.

Ok, ty for all you guy's help. I'm going to go with smite :thumbsup:
What should I use to get my crushing blow though?

Gores-15%
Guillaume's Face- 35%
Rattlecage (I will up this unless there's a better armor I should use)-25%

Total-75%

Is this going to be enough if I use an upped hoz?

I use:
Guillaumes (35%)
Duress (15%)
Goblin Toes (25%)
..... 75% not including my weapon... which will probably be crushflange until he is widdled down for a total of 108% crushing blow.

kingslayer as your weapon, it has that all important crushing blow and prevent monster heal...another important aspect

id say:
kingslayer runeword
duress runeword armor(better than rattlecage for overall mods)
gore rider
and guillaume's grill

thats 33+15+15+35 = 98
