Zarqawi might die

I have just heard the news about Zarqawi being seriously wounded, Al Qaeda's number 2 might die from his injuries.
IRAQ’S most wanted terrorist, Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, has been seriously wounded, according to a doctor who claims to have treated him last week.
The doctor told an Iraqi reporter in the western city of Ramadi that Zarqawi was bleeding heavily when he was brought into hospital on Wednesday. After treating his wounds the doctor tried to persuade him to remain, but the Jordanian-born terrorist’s minders drove him away.

The claim was supported yesterday by a senior commander in the Iraqi resistance who had been to Ramadi to investigate the report. The doctor, who refused to specify the nature of the wounds and asked not to be identified, was detained by the Americans on Friday for questioning, residents said.

Zarqawi, described as Osama Bin Laden’s “emir†in Iraq, is the Americans’ top target. He has been blamed for countless suicide bombings and for the execution of western hostages, including Ken Bigley, the Liverpool engineer. There is a £13m bounty on his head.

Last week US forces launched an offensive near al-Qaim, more than 100 miles northwest of the city, and claimed to have killed scores of insurgents.

According to the doctor, Zarqawi was escorted into Ramadi general hospital by smartly dressed men. “He was bleeding heavily and his escorts were well dressed with a look about them that was different from the casualties and family members we had been receiving from the al-Qaim offensive,†he was quoted as saying.

“I treated his injury and asked that he remain in hospital for further observations and told him that we would have to register him and take down his name and details. But he became very nervous and agitated. He refused and told me he would not be staying.

“The three men with him asked me politely that he be allowed to leave hospital immediately and that I supply them with a prescription and a list of medication that he may need.â€

The doctor, who recognised Zarqawi from his photograph on television, followed them to their vehicle to try to convince them that the patient should remain in hospital. At that point, he said, he saw machineguns. They threatened to kill him if he told anyone what he had seen.

They then produced a wad of US dollars to secure his silence. The doctor said that he had refused to take the cash.

Half-empty.

I imagine that it's just disinformation. He is probably planning to fake his own death and leave us a convenient corpse for the coalition forces to find. Al-qaeda has to know that we're monitoring their web activities so there's no way they would knowlingly post Zarqawi's imminent demise unless it was a lie (this information was posted on the website they use to document their activity). They likely paid the man listed above to make up the tale to corroborate their storyline that Zarqawi is not long for this world.

However, there is an equal chance that this is not a lie and that he is near death. Even if true, this doesn't help us out much in Iraq as there are thousands of insurrgents do not answer to the Al-qaeda leadership.

It is very likely to be true,it's been reported by reliable sources
Baghdad, 11 May (AKI) - The Jordanian militant Abu Musab al-Zarqawi is "serious injured, possibly dead" according to Colonel Fouad Hani Hassan, commander of the fifth division of the Iraqi armed forces, cited by 'Elaph', a popular website in the Arab world. Al-Zarqawi, considered al-Qaeda's leader in Iraq, is believed to have been injured in the major offensive US-led forces have been carrying out in the western Anbar province over the last few days.

Operation Matador is centred around the town of Qaim, just a few kilometres from the Syrian border, and is aimed at destroying the strongholds of foreign fighters coming over the border into Iraq to join the insurgency. It's the fourth day of violent fighting around the town, which has been surrounded by troops since Saturday night. Bombing is said to be heavy in Qaim, where there has been house-to-house fighting between troops and insurgents.

The satellite TV channel Al-Arabiya reported on Wednesday that two US military helicopters were brought down during clashes in villages near Qaim, where military aircraft had been carrying out bombing raids to root out Islamic militants from their hideouts.

On Tuesday, Raja Nawaf, the newly-appointed governor of the Anbar province was kidnapped near Qaim and his family was told he would only be released if US troops pulled out of the town. A US military spokesman responded to the news by reiterating that they do not give in to terrorist demands.

While Operation Matador is not specifically aimed at catching al-Zarqawi, Brig. Gen. James Conway told a Pentagon news briefing on Tuesday that "it would be a welcome event to come across him or his body."

This is the biggest US military operation since the offensive on the rebel-held town of Fallujah in November last year. More than 1,000 troops are involved and at least 15 US soldiers are said to have died in the fighting so far. The US military claims some 100 militants have been killed, but inside sources have admitted that they have encountered strong resistance in the town, with the insurgents demonstrating a high level of training.

The terrorists want nothing more than to be declared dead so they can escape and the US wants nothing more than to be able to declare them dead for "points"

With a system like that working so perfectly together how can things not work out?

If I were him, I wouldn't want the doctors to save me. There's a dozen virgins waiting for me on the otherside.

It's likely to be very true. It's been reported by very reliable sources, including US intelligence.
As for his death, that it wouldn't help much is arguable,Zarqawi being responsible for the main attacks/bombings in Iraq.Without Al QAeda, the number of attacks would greatly decrease.
Even though his death doesn't help much to solve terrorism in Iraq,he was responsible for murders he committed and he was involved in terrorist attacks.
His death may be seen as a kind of justice by the families of his victims, even though his death seems to be sweet compared to what he did to his many hostages/victims.

Hearing about his even "possible" death just makes this almost perfect day...EVEN BETTER!!

I hope that basterd his death..and may it be in total misery..to the last blood drop. I'm sorry God for those thoughts..but he deserves it in my eyes.

I tell ya..all those I've seen him behead..and murder. I've always told people its not in me to do such a thing as behead...but I believe I could kill him and eat a salad out of his hollowed out neck. I hate him. Please let this be true his dead.

Even if he were to die, won't someone else just fill his place? There's enough hateful people in this world, and it's been my experience that they are always willing to step up to the challenge of being terrible people.

Dude, don't count Zarqawi out until you see the body. The guy is a bad-ass. Even though he only has one leg he was still able to run away from US forces on foot during the raid that netted us his laptop.

I think he's bionic. Closer analysis of the sound tapes of that raid will tell us whether that telltale "wee eee oww oww oww oww" bionic sound was heard that day.

Yes and no.

But we're hoping for a less capable and lesser trained replacement. Considering the constant action, a lesser person is likely to fill the void since there's insufficient time to be picky.

I like the NG's motto better.

Join the National Guard!
Travel to distant, exotic lands
Meet new and exciting people
and kill them.
But only on weekends.

I dont' care one way or other about Zarqawi. He's living on borrowed time. Clerics are asking that the people pray for him. Small wonder why he's not getting much prayer (except for death in Iraq) seeing as how he thinks it's great fun to use truck bombs to kill women and children. He must be quite the manly man, to use a coward's methods to kill women and children.

I won't even toast his death. He's not worth the waste of my air.

You sure you're not mixing National Guards with Reserves? I think one is for wusses.

"Meet new and exciting people and kill them."..? Please don't go to Cambodia or Sri Lanka. We wouldn't want trigger happy rednecks thinking anything non-White is shootable.

I am sure one of your favorite movies is Red Dawn. The commies occupied US and all the rednecks with picktrucks where considered terrorists by the occupying force. It's all a matter of perspective.

Er, I was under the distinct impression that only a small minority of clerics were in support of his actions. Unless I missed the memo about all Muslims being terrorists. I did forget to watch O'Reilly last night, so might have missed that one. :teeth:

Sorry, couldn't help it.

You do know what happens when you mention that movie in here, right?
