    Re: Your favorite dish

I have a thing for mashed potato and mincemeat sauce. I think it well qualifies for simple meal, although this depends of course on the person defining.

With some fava beans and a nice chianti?

Besides, you were supposed to choose a simple dish. Now, would you care to explain how a woman qualifies for a simple anything, ever? Hnnnnnmmmm?

    Re: Your favorite dish

Here are a random three of my top 20, deliberately written in German - partly Northern German dishes which you might not find a translation for

Zwetschenklüten (Mummy's are the best !!)
Kartoffelpuffer mit Apfelmus (the ones my aunt makes !!)
Kirschpfannkuchen (I make the best ones myself)

None of them need meat BTW, although Zwetschenklüten taste particularly well with a bit of vinegar and rendered bacon poured over them. I'm not a veggie BTW.

does plain steak count? I love pretty much all my meats plain and they are very easy to cook up. If not then I got to go with mac and cheese made with some chicken stock. My fiance just made this a few days ago and its amazing!

    Re: Your favorite dish

I'm neither Chris Chan nor Krishna or whatever :wink3:. Krischan is Northern German slang for Christian, a German forename.

Zwetschenklüten = plums (the small, oval, dark blue ones), enclosed in a thin dough made of flour, boiling water, a bit butter and a pinch of salt. The kernels aren't removed. They are cooked in slightly selted water which is just below the boiling point. They are a tiny bit heavier than water, to they will sink to the bottom of the pot but after 10 minutes in the water they will surface which means they are ready to eat. Cut them in half then and pour the mentioned vinegar and rendered bacon over them. Add a bit sugar. Yummy !! Some people are of the opinion that they are a dessert (2-3 of them would be enough then), but I prefer 10-15 as the main dish :azn:

Kirschpfannkuchen = make palm-sized pancakes (so 3 fit in a pan) with the dough being a bit thicker than for normal pancakes, put 6-8 sweet cherries on each (the kernels aren't removed), pour a bit extra dough over them, so you can bake them on both sides. Add a bit sugar if necessary.

Kartoffelpuffer = make a dough of roughly grated, raw potatoes, margarine or frying fat (not sure) and flour, bake them in a pan. Don't ask me about details, only my aunt can make the variant I'm talking about. The regular ones cannot compare by far.
