Your favorite Christmas movie?

Re: Your favorite Christmas movie?

Just because it takes place during Christmas doesn't mean it's a Christmas movie.
That's a point of view, but not an argument. Whatever, Christmas is the festival of peace and a good opportunity to make a bit alcohol training for the liver and to stock up fat reserves for the winter (the latter isn't necessary for aussies, of course), so it's not worth arguing about, in particular not about unfunded points on both sides.

It wasn't you, "favourite" and "Christmas movie" together constitute an oxymoron.
OK. I also agree that there's a difference between something being an oxymoron and calling something one to make a rhetorical point :whistling:

* note to self: Use less smilies, it's cooler that way *

"Christmas" is not mentioned at all in Hogfather, yet it most certainly is a Christmas movie - the best. Also for me the best "book turned into movie" I ever saw.

It was alright for a telemovie. Pratchett doesn't adapt well though, it loses too much in other mediums. That is, it loses him. You get that a lot with authors who are really good with prose.

Oh c'mon Dondrei - that movie is mainly fun because of the lovely extra roles in it, like Rowan Atkinsons role. I think it's funny.

Now if you don't agree, all you have to think about is that only in Januar this year it's been officially established I have no taste.
You're a girl, you're allowed to like dreadful movies if they're chick flicks.

That's a point of view, but not an argument. ??

A movie containing chicks is not necessarily a chick movie. A movie containing Christmas is not necessarily a Christmas movie. "Christmas movie" means something apart from the literal, it's an idiom you crazy German bastard.

Love Actually isn't so much a chick flick.....since there's guys enjoying it too. Though like me mainly for the extra's.

When I said I have no taste, it didn't mean I'm some sort of a Sex and the city sort of woman.

Another vote for Christmas Vacation here.

"Merry Christmas. Merry Christmas. Kiss my ***. Kiss your ***. Kiss his ***...Happy Chanukah."

Todd: Hey Griswold. Where do you think you're gonna put a tree that big?
Clark: Bend over and I'll show you.
Todd: You've got a lot of nerve talking to me like that Griswold.
Clark: I wasn't talking to you. (gestures to Julia Louis-Dreyfus)

So many of the best parts of that movie were entire scenes, it makes it difficult to quote.

Thought you wouldn't - the book is Hogfather, by Terry Pratchett, a wonderful take on Christmas. Very very funny.
Like most Pratchett wonders, ain't it viv.
On topic : Chalk up another one for Home alone 1.

@Krischan : i know what you mean. Heisse heidi in dem bergen is also situated around christmas and is definitely one of my all-time favorite xmas movies.

Re: Your favorite Christmas movie?

Are you sure about the title ? That way it sounds like a porn movie. It translates to "Hot Heidi in the mountains". But perhaps that's the whole point of it :azn:

I'd not combine that Heidi movie with "the whole point" Krischan. It might get a bit messy from there.
I'll just stay with Hogfather.

I'm not combining anything here, the others are already doing that :whistling:

Yeah but that smiley you just used looks like it's actually jodelling. Heidi-heido-heida*)

*) If I remember correctly this was once used as an intro to a very German metal song, by Accept, if I'm not mistaken.

EDIT: After I posted this, an add appeared between your post and my post, saying in rather big disturbing letters "I want you inside me!".
When I dared to look again I discovered it featured a picture of a sweater. Such a relief.

That's "Fast as a shark" and don't you forget it. Quite possibly one of the best songs in the world

Right after "lucy in the sky with diamonds" and "surfing with the alien"

I thought it was. You ought to be amazed for me actually remembering that at all.
Fast as a shark, Lucy in the sky with diamonds goes surfing with the alien."
Nah, that'll never work.

Now don't try to tell us you're not controlling those adds here, krischan
Nice one though
