theres a big talk at popular science mag bout the hard to replace battery that only lasts 18 months, u should check it out cuz it requires u do pride open the case and stuff
Actually that statistic is misleading. First of all, it uses the same lithium-ion battery that all the main mp3 players out there use, so it isn't specifically an ipod problem. Second, the people whose batteries last only 18 months are those people who use the ipod daily over those 18 months.

I'm considering getting the iPod mini. 4 gigs of music probably covers my entire collection.
I have about 18 gigs of music, that I am currently working on updating to AAC. It is a very tedious process. How in the world can you be happy with 4 gigs? That is like nothing. *makes a playlist of 4k songs*

Unless you like the "cuteness" of the iPOD mini or that it's slightly smaller than the other players, then I'd advise against getting one. As KOW stated, the 4GB size is TERRIBLE considering the $250 price tag it still carries with it. Even if you don't have a huge list now, you'd have room for expanding your music collection with the larger model, plus... even with extra room - with the iPOD's ability to be an external HD... you have extra storage space as needed.

IMO, the $50 savings on the mini simply isn't worth it.

Right now, my iPod doesn't work.

Is it possible to transfer music files from a networked computer to my iPod from this computer?

(Will I get busted for illegal MP3's?)

How exactly is it not working? Maybe some of us can help.

Yep. Depending on the software you are using (I use Musicmatch right now, but there are plenty of other options), you can add MP3's from different location, including shared folders on other PC's on the Network. Should be worth a try certainly.

Your guess is as good as mine. At this stage I would say not, and not for some time. In the future however... who knows.

No you won't get busted as long as they really are your songs(IE you have the CD/etc) Apple doesn't track what you put on your iPod.

As for transfering songs only if you can mount the HD or do a remote login(I may be able to tell you how in XP) Otherwise you have to send the songs over the network to the other computer.

NOTE: I just remembered iTunes has a built in sharing feature that allows you to listen to songs on all networked computers. . .if you check out ipodlounge I am almost positive someone has written a crack to allow you to save the songs.

I installed iTunes and it said something like i can't add music to my iPod from music match after i install iTunes. So I thought iTunes would be a nifty program, turns out it sucks (or I suck rather).

In musicmatch, i open the portable manager but there are no devices listed...can someone help me?
