    Yay!

I got a call a few days ago... it's official. I'm going to Sweden next year for a student exchange! I was afraid that I wouldn't get in the program (AFS) because I applied later than I really should have, but I was lucky enough to snag the last spot in Sweden.

I'm so excited! I've wanted to spend a year of high school abroad ever since I knew that it was possible, and it's finally going to work. I haven't been assigned to a host family yet, but I know that I leave in August.

I had a dream about Sweden last night... I lived in a jelly bean store... well, I didn't say it made sense.

Congratulations! That's so awesome! You are going to love it! Hopefully you can meet some of our forum Swedes.

Congrats! Sweden is a really nice place (though I speak as an ignorant American tourist). I'm still at a loss as to how they keep Stockholm so clean.

Congrats, Sierra! Make sure you say hi to Dross, Hats, Johnny, and the other OTFers of swedish decent. :)

But how freaky would that be if your host family was one of them? :cheesy:

Nice going, Sierra. I remembered your post from a while ago (I think) and wondered how that went. Now you will have a memory most other people won't have.

    Thanks everyone! :)

That would be amazing if I got an OTFamily...

    *Runs off and learns Swedish*

Edit: Yeah, I posted here when I first applied a few months ago. I have no idea what to expect from it. I thought about going to a Spanish-speaking country, since I know enough Spanish that I could probably become completely fluent if I spoke it and heard it constantly for even a month, never mind a year. I finally decided on Sweden, though, because I've always wanted to go there, I've heard only good things about it, and I would love to learn Swedish. So, anyway... (only) five months to go...

Wow, congrats Si. Sweden is one of the countries I've always wanted to go to. I want to apply for something like that, but I think it's way too late for me. Think entering 11th is too late?

Anyway, could you please send a postcard? When time comes, I'll give you all the info you'd need to know.

    Thanks!

I'm going to be in eleventh grade next year, too, which is the year I wanted to go. It probably is too late to apply to go next year, but you could go senior year if you could manage to work around college applications and all that. Some people pull it off, I don't know exactly how.

Of course I'll send you a postcard! I'll send a bunch, if you like :)

    Zep: Heheh, good point :D

Or, you can send one to Durf addressed to all of us well-wishers as one of our forum daughters braves the wild world of the Nords. Or something like that. And he can post it on his website. Maybe. If that's all right with him. And you. If you know what I mean.

Interesting idea, MV. That would be a neat way of letting everyone know how's it going, especially if things get really busy where it's tough to take a few days to send postcards and such.

Oh, and Sierra...it's a bit late in the year to still be sporting a Santa hat, don't you think? ;)

Congrats! Sweden is great. Take warm clothes. :)

Do you know where in the country you'll be staying?

I think I went to a few candy stores in Stockholm. Was I in your dream? I'd be the guy who looks kind of Scandinavian but sounds like an American trying to buy non-licorice-flavored stuff for his wife.

EDIT: The postcard thing sounds like a deal. I have access to flatbed scanners and all that. :)

I don't know yet where in the country I'll be, but I might find that out this week. I'm not quite sure if it'll be in the information I'm supposed to get soon. I'll let you guys know.

You may have been there, Durf. I remember that you could buy big bags of jelly beans or smaller ones. Jelly beans, that's about all the store sold. If you like jelly beans, you were probably there.

Edit: I guess the forum was hungry...
Thanks Starfishied- nice avatar, by the way :D
