Has anyone ever used a Crossbow with a Sorceress? One day I equiped a Rockstopper (I think?) unique field plate on a Sorc and had a black crossbow on switch for item storage purposes.

It looked awesome, like some mean high tech crossbow(wo)man

Can you have a viable build where you use the Crossbow for Physical damage on switch (and for immunes from your spells), and a single tree specialisation for the magic skills?

Is this viable? I was thinking increasing dex for block when in "spell" mode would also help the damage for when you are in "ranged physical mode"

admittedly this idea came up more for aesthetics purposes than out of pragmatism

Do you perhaps mean Rockfleece? Personally, I think it might be interesting and fun to try a build like that. I wouldn't though, but that's just me. I like casters to be casters in my lil world :p.

The weapon of choice for Ranged Enchantresses, when last I checked, was Demon Machine (whose "fires explosive arrows" mod carries all that Enchant damage to everyone in the splash radius). Certainly a Hell-viable character, although I don't know if you like the look as much with a Chu-Ko-Nu type crossbow.

If you want a big freaking crossbow, you could try a Hellrack Sork with an unlimited supply of Orts who burns through the Immo Arrow Charges (which would also carry the Enchant splash damage). Hellcast is a large-type crossbow that comes with Fires Explosive Arrows (so you don't need to burn all those Orts to repair), but the rest of its damage won't be as good as the 'Rack. Still, a very viable choice (and a cheap one, to boot).

You could make yourself a "Silence" runeword Collossus-type crossbow and use it to blind enemies, then roast them with Firewalls, or something of the sort (sort of a poor man's Ice Blast). Then, of course, the best possible crossbow might possibly be the Hand of Justice or Ice runewords, but those carry a serious duped rune warning, requiring both a Sur and a Cham for HoJ and a Jah + Lo for Ice. Actually, you could use Ice or Phoenix as caster weapons, only holding them for the damage boost and not actually firing any bolts unless your stuck in a spell timer. For crazy ugly points, use the "Venom" runeword and create quite possibly the worst character build ever.

Lots of options here.

You'll want Pierce from somewhere (probably your belt) - the arrows will travel through monsters, creating a huge chain effect if you get it right.

If you want blind, I think Sur's got it so you could put a Sur in whatever crossbow you're going to use.

Demon's Machine carries 66% pierce, which is enough as a minimum. Adding Razortail is great, but if you have to you can get by without it.

Immolation Arrow is boosted by Fire Mastery right?

SSoG, i know this may be a bit out of topic, but do you know if the Exploding arrows on Kuko Shakau and such get synergized by Act1 mercs Fire arrows? ( I don't think so, but...)

They don't. In fact, Exploding Arrow doesn't work at all on A1 mercs. The graphic works, so it LOOKS like they're firing exploding arrows, but the splash doesn't deal any damage. It's been tested and confirmed- Exploding Arrow is definitely one of the mods that for some inexplicable reason won't work on Mercs (much like PMH).

Three cheers for Blizzard and their legendary quality control! Hip hip, hooray!
