WTF? MMO players older, more educated, and more fit than nongamers?

I'd be skeptical due to the limited nature of the study (EQII). Needs some additional study.

I bet the reason why it thinks gamers are older is because EQ2 is so damn old.

Fit in what way?

I would think gamers have a very strong grip and forearm strength.

My guild in WoW is fairly adult. We were joking the requirements to join should be either that you are married or pregnant. :jig: And the tabard should have the image of a changing table.

If you're playing EQ2, you know how to stick with something. And that's a huge requirement for staying fit. The two have more in common than you might think.

Well, I guess heroin junkies are usually pretty thin . . .

Is that serious bias or lame joke?

He said that people who know how to "stick to something" are at an advantage for staying fit. I was just musing that people who "stick to" heroin are usually pretty thin, so perhaps his supposition is correct. =P

"Sticking to something" usually refers to an action one does not necessarily enjoy, but that one does anyway because it is of benefit (E.g. Working out, eating right, going to work). "Sticking to something" that a person wants to do (e.g. playing video games, eating junk food, shooting heroin) is not generally considered an indicator of above-average willpower that will spill over into other areas ("Well, I'm not surprised he's been married for 20 years. After all, he's been watching the Simpsons for just a long, and that kind of commitment obviously pays off in his relationship too!")

If you still don't get it: I was being sarcastic.

I see what you mean but many aspects of some games arent really that fun, but you do it to achieve a higher goal. Not so a heroin junkie, they stick to it because its addicting. For example grinding levels so you can do a lvl 80 raid in WoW isnt really too fun, so you do have to learn to have a goal and stick to it.(some people are just plain addicted though :p)

more educated I definatley agree on.

I think grinding to 80 so you can commit 6 hours a night to raiding is proof you are severely disturbed, tbh.

why is that? is sitting in an office for 9 hours a day disturbing? working out an hour each day and basing your life around muscle gaining(eating ,sleeping habits) disturbing? Of course everything has a point where it's a bit excessive or obsessive but as long as the player is enjoying it whats wrong with it?

You don't have to work out an hour a day. 2-3 hours a week is sufficient. Working out isn't soley to feel good right on the spot, it's has more of a ripple effect to your life. Hard to explain but you just simply enjoy more things in life if you're in shape. Whereas hours spent on a game, what does that really brings you in life except negativity?

9 hours spent at work is a necessity to make $$. You can't seriously tell me 9 hours in front of the computer is really equivalent to having a meaningful career.

maybe the office was a bad example to get my point across.
You say working out makes you feel better and enjoy life( I started working out recently so im not criticizing it) and that playing WoW for example doesnt do anything for you. NOT true. you cant look at it from your perspective( i think that it'd be a waste of my time too) but look through the eyes of the person playing. This is his "working out", this makes him feel better, this is what he wants to do.
You may say he has no life also, but how is this true when to him his life is fully satisfying?
See what I'm trying to say?:whistling:

EDIT: yes i can say that "wasting away" infront of the PC can be as meaningful as a succesful carreer. what if you dont want alot of cash? what if you hate work? then playing games may be your only joy in life(or whatever). You may not have a large impact on others lives, though it can be just as meaningful to you

6 hours a week

well, 9 if you want to do a 10man naxx also
10 man? Better loot on 25. I only know a few wings well enough for heroic tho.

I cannot do the safety dance to save my life. I so want that achievement.

I finally found my raid guild. They are the greatest bunch..and we all don't play 6 hours every day. If you screw up...no biggie. Plus, they have invited my :cloud9:.
