WTF is those small guy at baal's room??

I start my paladin recently and I thought he is invincible due to:
    75% block
    20k def

However, these "little guy" at baal's room (name soul killer) can hurt me up to 600 HP  and it seems my block cannot avoid their attack! With a bunch of them, my din can be killed in no time :( .

What kind of skill do they have? they seems to be the most horrible monster to me in HELL other than oblivion knight.

    thx

Well according to The Arreat Summit they just deal an incredible amount of melee damage and, as you can see, can explode upon dying.

Just kill 'em quick from far away ^_^

Their explosion (half fire, half physical AFAIK) is what makes them fearsome. IIRC the physical part of it is blockable, but if you get swarmed while you are using an uninterruptible multi-attack skill (like zeal or WW), it might still kill you, especially if you blow your blocking roll after you killed a boss.

In any case, for melee characters they are just #2, after Oblivion Knights, and don't forget encounters like gloams/souls (or any monster dealing decent elemental damage) with a conviction boss.

What i have noticed is that my merc doesn't seem to be affected by the explosion.

When i'm playing solo on Bnet (mf-inf) my hammerdin steps back and my merc takes them in no time.

Even if they die he doesn't get injured.

    Is this just me?

It als works on the little monsters in the durance.

That's right, mercs are immune to explosions from the dolls and from the suicide demons and btw, the javelin throwers in e.g. the bloody hills can't hit them as well.

I'm pretty convinced that it is ONLY physical (i.e. it's not a corpse explosion). *If* I happen to be in the blast radius, my bonearmor gets damaged quite a bit, but if I have BA remaining I don't take any damage. And BA only absorbs physical damage...

I have 75% fire resist and no absorb, so I would assume that with 50% fire damage I would take SOME damage...

And yes, the death explosion only affects players --- skeletons, mercs and golems are not affected (or the damage is WAY too low for me to notice).

yeah the best way to stop them is using your merc as a tank. if you have tele, just tele back and your merc will front them, and you can run backwards and kill (unless you're a melee char, then just let your merc kill them).

If you can cast lifetap on the crowd and use a weapon with knockback, these little guys are no problem. When one explodes in death and takes some of your life, the next one you hit will fill your life to the top. Knockback allows them to blow up far enough away from you so you won't take as much damage.

That's right, I confused that with CE.

Blocking helps a lot, so as long as you don't face more than two at a time, you can even fight them with uninterruptible multi-attack skills, like WW or zeal. In any case, stay away from the bosses :)

As long as you are in blast radius, you'll get full dmg.
