wtf did they do to mf?

been runnin meph and andy in hell multi playre games and ancient tunnles lvl 95 or whatever for a few days now and cant seem to get **** , and they almost always drop crap or low level uniques sets 80% of the time,got 380 mf is it to little or to much or soemthing what gives

best ive gotten arreats,ali baba, two vipers i got werent even off bossesand a damn windhammer whihc sseesm pretty useless for any build

Sometimes you get BS for drops, and sometimes the MF gods decide to throw godly stuff at you. Do some more runs and hope for the luck to turn around. 380 is good enough although it wouldn't hurt to get more. Just don't sacrifice survivablility for it.

MF just increases the chances for you to get Magic, Rare, Set and Unique items.

It doesn't, however, mean you'll be getting good items.

MF never hurts, but 380 is already plenty.

380% mf -> 150% better chance for unique
380% mf -> 215% better chance for set

500% mf -> 166% better chance for unique
500% mf -> 250% better chance for set

For uniques, upping to 500% will change next to nothing.

Yeps, the so-called randomness starts to make sense the more and more you kill monsters.

You can test this empirically by killing Baal a million times, for example. The numerals should look quite the same, when you compare the chances to the random sample you have created.

it appears your mf is fine. windhammer is an elite uniqe, rest are exceptionals. just because you think it's junk doesn't mean mf isn't working.

I have about 465% MF and 70% Hell Andy drops mere gold, 20% of the time she drops rare items and 8% of the time she drops crappy uniques like cathan's ring or unique poleaxe or voulge (yes, she has dropped over 10 poleaxes for me, same with meph actually) only 2% of the time she drops something satisfactory like gheed's gc. I know the rough statistics because I've gone from mf-001 to over 100 counts. Strangely, I have about the same MF % on NL but Andy usually drops good uniques (ex. shako) at least 15% of the time. Meph drops slightly better items but they are still crap compared to what I get from NL meph. Ordinary monsters now seem to drop better items than bosses, like when I saw the screen shot of someone getting a unique sacred armor from an undead o-o;

I found 2 sojs from hell Andariel, but no shakos or wizardspikes,

aslo does griswold really have the highest chance of droping wpn armor class

61? he don't even drop white boneknifes or white glide shields.

it helps if you know what monsters to run for which items you want. If you are looking for a Soj or such rings do NM andy not Hell. There are some funny quirks like that in the treasure classes.

I know what you mean about getting better drops from ordinary monsters than unique/boss monsters. I do nightmare pindle runs a lot and one time I killed pindle and all his minions without even getting a rare. Then I go out and kill a few of the normal undeads, and boom, Jalal's mask. :clap:

Last season I ran pindle heaps and the best I got was from the monsters around the portal can't complain though it was griz's caddy. So mf is purely about numbers of monsters killed, eventually you will get something good.

Long long long ago on this forum there was a thread about MF not working on act bosses, i'm not sure what the ultimate verdict was for that thread but it might shine some light on this situation. I find that on the whole I get nicer items (this is in a solo game) by clearing some location of heroes and champions than by doing a meph run; the meph is much shorter but i've gotten drops ranging from bolts and tp scrolls to HOZ and shako.

On a completely and utterly unrelated note, is a diadem an upped tiara or circlet? I'm wondering because i'm trying to gamble one, failing that i'll try to use the cube recipe to up a rare/unique of a different type.

That's not the case, MF works just fine on all monsters.

A Diadem is the elite version of both the Circlet and the Coronet, and the Tiara is the excep version for both of them. However, when gambling only the Coronets can upgrade to Tiaras and Diadems. This is because when a Circlet upgrades to Tiara/Diadem before identifying it's displayed as a Coronet.
