WOW Versus Diablo II

WOW Versus Diablo II

I have read a fair bit on here about ppl wanted to upgrade to WOW from Diablo, since Diablo is after all a very old game and starting to get a bit tired.

After playing World of Warcraft over the weekend for a good 30 hours all up I personally wouldn’t bother.

Dont get me wrong I was pretty hooked on it at the start – and played it non-stop for like 8 hours on Friday, Saturday and last night

But now I am completely bored with it.

Everything just takes so long !!

In D2 u have to go out do a quest – but u could always Town Portal back to town to repair your gear.

Last night I was 20 minutes out from the nearest town, halfway through a quest and my armor broke. I had to run back on foot for 20 minutes to town, fix my gear, run back out to complete the quest, then run back to town for another 20 minutes to claim quest credit. That wasted an hour just to get my gear repaired…. Really really annoying I tell you.

U cant use town portal scrolls to portal to town, and there are no waypoints to goto! U have to go everywhere by foot – and the world is huge – I bet u could spend like 20 hours just walking from one end to the other.

There are griffin waypoints but these are way too far apart from each other.

The other thing I cant stand is when you die. In D2 u just hit escape and respawn in town.

With this game u re-spawn in the graveyard then have to run back to your body to get it and become alive again.

On Friday there was a giant spider near my body and I died like 4-5 times just trying to retrieve it – and wasted a good 2 hours just trying to get my body back!

Soloing is viable up until about level 10 – then u have to party up to do quests otherwise you just don’t get anywhere.

Its not like D2 where u can just jump into a pack of 20 skeletons and survive – if there are 20 skeletons in this game u have to fight them one at a time. If u jumped in you would die instantly.

In fact its very difficult to take on 2 monsters at the same time – AND u cannot heal yourself in combat, AND u cant run away so if u r loosing a fight at the start u know u will die. This is really crappy.

I was fighting a normal mechanical golem on Saturday with 2 friends ( we were all level 13 and the golem was level 15) and we got annihilated…. And had to run back to our bodies and die again…. Fun… not.

Leveling takes forever – 1-5 goes pretty fast. Then from 6-11 is ok. It almost took a whole day to go from level 13 to level 14.

And that was after doing like 10 different quests.

Its just really slow.

Its actually more grinding than Diablo – I personally have more fun running down killing Mephi – making a new game doing it again.

This is exactly the same – it might say go kill 20 kobolds and bring back their candles. The next quest will be – go kill 10 spiders and bring back their legs…

Boring…. No thought has gone into this game at all.

A quest in D2 can be completed in like 1-5 minutes.

The go kill 20 kobold quest above could take a good hour to do and you still wouldn’t get a level up.

The level ups are dodgy as well – u don’t get to choose new skills – u have to talk to class specific trainers and buy them.

The only skills u can choose are talents – which are all really weak – like increase your chance of blocking by 1% - or make your attack do 1% more damage over 30 seconds….

I played a warrior and a preist – and they both start at the same place and have to do the same boring quests. There are some class specific quests – but they don’t add much flavour to the game.

In Australia the game is $90 and u can play it for one month! Its such a rip off since u can only play it online.

They should of made it like $20 to buy it then u pay a monthly fee.

I have played Guildwars at a mates place and that looks very polished… that’s what Im waiting for.

Has anyone else found that WOW just isn’t worth all that hype?

The average age on there is like 10-13 as well – no adults or anything.

Im 26 and felt very out of place on there LOL.

My final gripe with the game is that all the character names are used!!! Havent Blizzard learned? They should let us use numbers and special characters so we can all have names we want.

Like -- If you wanted Fred then u could use
Fr3d
–Fred—
*Fred*

Instead u have to have Tyoujojlkdfjdk

because that is the only name left availabe.

Sorry but there is no excuse for Blizzards negligence on this part.

My final gripe - is that every warrior is the same, they all have the same skills, do the same thing - U just dont have must customization at all.

Lets look at D2 if u played a Druid - u could be a summoner, u could play a shapeshifter, u could be a fire druid, a Wind Druid - a hybrid - heaps of options avaiable in this if u r a warrior.. u r the same as every other warrior.

Im just so disappointed with this game – it has so much potential but just doesn’t pull itself together.

Excellent music, reasonably tidy graphics, gameplay just blows.

Sounds like a great game to me. Alot like eq.

I like games where it takes time to accomplish something. Where death has meaning.

Oh and adding numbers and special characters to names? Weak and lame. Thank god blizz doesn't allow that crap in WOW.

Personally I don't think 30hrs is anywhere near enough to call the gameplay terrible.

You never even ventured out of the noobie gardens. Even in EQ the early lvls and quests were lame and tedious. They defianately were not definitive of the entire scope of the game.

It's the nature of the genre.

I've been thinking about checking it out, but I wasted sooooo much time on eq, I don't think I want another addiction like that. :p

ahh, u will like this game then - I wasnt a big fan of EQ either. I just find it really grinding, and PK's were really annoying.

I agree death should have meaning, but if u have to get your body and if that takes 5 minutes thats cool - but its very crappy programming to let the same monster kill you as soon as you re-spawn. When u do finally get your body u only start with half life and you are cannon fodder straight away. Usually u can re-spawn in a safe place, but I couldnt spawn safely where the spider killed me, so I was getting really frustrated.....

So you are happy with having a name that r like

Lijodfjdkfjdkfjdf

just because any cool name u have thought up isnt available?

I like to have a unique name and handle.

Personally I don't think 30hrs is anywhere near enough to call the gameplay terrible.
Its not terrible, its just not exciting, and there is nothing to make u want to go any furthure.

A few ppl I chatted with on their said they werent that impressed with it either. Plus people dont really help each other out there.

Perhaps - I should give it another go this weeken then. And give it a bit more time. I just found so many flaws with it.

I guess for me personally I only play computer games perhaps 5 hours a week, and I just found too much time was used getting from A to B.

It would be different if you played it for like 8 hours a day every day I guess.

I just dont have that sort of time.

LOL - I know what you mean - it can be very time consuming.

If u liked EQ I would say that u would like this though - it is similar.

Diablo 2 is unbeatable, well untill 3! So when is it coming? LOL. I really hope they are going to make another one. Maybe we could all partisian them. I'd love to go 3d with it face to face with monsters, up close and personal. Then i'd love to have the swing moves to vary a bit, so it didn't get too monotenous (i'm so goood at spelling!). Well i can keep dreaming.
Wow sucks. I agree :D

Wow sucks. I agree :D

I think Guildwars is as good as we will get - its made by the same ppl that made Diablo II and Starcraft , as well as by the same ppl that made battlenet.

My friend bought the pre-release version so he gets to play it once a weekend every month and a saw a bit of it - Everything just looks so impressive with guildwars, the graphics are even better than WOW very lifelike - I found WOW to look really cartoony.

I just think a lot of the magic comes from customizing your own character and making someone really unique.

Everyone in WOW just seems to be the same.

Just because u can be a Human warrior, or a dwarf warrior doesnt do it for me - after all thats just an appearance difference - big deal.

I want to make something completely unique thats a one of a kind.

O heck, I forgot all about binding.

THAT is the lamest thing on WOW.

Lets say u have a longsword that does 22-45 damage.

Then u find a new one - that does 20-42 its not as good as your one so u dont use it - in D2 u could just give it to a mate - that way u help each other out.

In this items bind to u - so u cant even give them away to friends. All u can do is sell them to vendors for hardly anything.

Not all items bind, its mainly quest items, or drops from bosses, but I find this very very annoying.

Because u could find an uber item that would be useful to someone else but it might be junk to you - as soon as you pick it up - it then binds to u , u therefore cant trade it to someone else for soemthing that you want.

Wot the?

this is so dumb!!

I am guessing this is your first time playing MMORPG. FYI, WOW was design as a MMORPG which clearly different from fast phase action RPG like D2. Comparing both of them is like comparing apple and orange. If you like fast phase action pack then Sarced and Guildwar should fit you well.

In a game like WOW, you need to put in more thought before performing your next action. For example, if you have check and repair your armor before setting off, you could have save that one hour trip.

Another thing, Blizzard limit the use of number in name to make sure the general game's enviroment has more RPG feel. As for name like 'Lijodfjdkfjdkfjdf', it almost impossible to have program to stop that. Somemore this type of random character name might be a meaningfull words in some foreign language.

It's ok you didn't like WOW. After all, what's one person opinion againts million others player out there that enjoy playing it. The game sales speak for itself.

yep, it was :).

My armor was fully repaired when I left. It was damaged in about 20 minutes during some hard fights. Low level armor doesnt last very long at all. I just think they put the emphasis on walking from A to B rather than doing something meaningful.

They should let as use last names then, that would be better at least we could have a character that we find a bit more personal.

Its not that I dont like it , it just doesnt live up to all the hype generated about it thats all.
