I was looking at the rune word and seen this call "passion" DOL-ORT-ELD-LEM. cool innit.

if it is on a two handed sword summoner is like leoric with ZEAL, but hey, I did some research and gather that for melee passion weapon, the best for necro probably is Shillelagh, yeah, you got it, it is staff. they do massive damage compare to swords and axes, and use a fliction of the requirement.

anyway, my question is this, can I rune word Passion into a shillelagh?? the D2 site say Passion is for melee weapon, I take that is okay for staff class weapon. since 1.10 the new rune words are so expensive that every rune word is like a 3 week project at least. I dun want to collect the rune and staff and it did not work..

I thought about that myself. The problem I saw was "Hit Blinds Target," which would override any curse you chose to use (especially bad if you're depending on Decrepify for some defense). If you can stomach the curse-overriding, it'll work in any melee weapon.

With Passion there is only one problem. It does not have OW, CB or DS.

Curses are ok, I am not too fuss about it coz I don't use them that much, (only when partying).

as for the OW CB and DS, I have Gore rider which is like OW 10% CB 15% DS 15%, so the chances of any of these happening (or 1 - none of these happening) is 1-(0.9 x 0.85 x 0.85) = 0.34975 about 35%, using zeal as well, with + skill gear, I will have at least level 3 zeal I think, so after 4 hits, the chances of anyone of the effect happened will be (or 1- none of these effect happened ) = 1- ((0.9 x 0.85 x 0.85)^4)= 0.82129, about 82%.

specificly for open wound, any one hit out of the 4 will give the effect and it is lasting too. the chance for OW after 4 hit will be about 35% (0.3439).

I think that given the passion's ED, with a high damage weapon like elite staff, the DS will be quite effecive too.

anyway, I think the rune is quite easily trade / find, all I need to do now is to get a 4 sox staff.

If you have Gore Rider than Passion is pretty good. The overriding of curses is not to bad, because it is apllied to only one target. The rest is still under the influence. The Zeal makes up for the lack of curses.

I'd consider getting a high ED% (~280+) Ribcracker for a staff using meleemancer instead of "Passion". Why?

The +100% Enhanced defense is awesome on a non-armor item as it doubles your total defense before Defiance for instance.

Ribcrackers are rather nice. There are several options equally suited for a Meleemancer.

You are using a Defiance Merc. How is it going? I find the HF Merc to be more of a help, but haven't fully experimented with the Defiance one yet. I assume you concentrate on finding high defense armors.

yeah, I think ribcracker is cool too, a better choice to some extends, but it is elite unique item and I think it will be much much more expensive then rune word and staff for Passion.

Actually, Ribcracker is exceptional (and can be upgraded to elite, if desired). Probably not much more expensive than the Lem rune, unless there's a bunch of builds out there using Ribcrackers.

I've expirimented with passion and it really isn't too good, even when in something high dmging. It has hit causes moster to flee, which is a big no-no.

Try using the ribcracker, I rather like them .

And on ladder Lem rune is far more expensive than a ribcracker.

Passion isn't only confined to melee weapons. A Passion crossbow is effective and the "Hit Blinds Target" is not that much of an annoyance when going the Bowamancer route. Zeal is excellent with a ranged weapon.

Never tried it, so I can't answer that one.

Vengeance doesn't atleast, so I doubt any attacks besides the amazon Bow specific skills do.
