Would there be any interest in a rare/magic only tournament?

Hey spfers!

So I'm having an awesome time in the green and gold tourney, and have given this a lot of thought. I've decided regardless of interest, I'm gonna give it a shot. As always, it'd be HC, single pass, untwinked, but only blue/yellow items (including jewels) could be used. I'm not decided on runes yet (since I love seeing those godly Shael'd circlets), but would anyone be interested in a tournament around this idea? Wouldn't be for another month or so while I iron out the details.

The idea sorta came from looking back through screenshots of my almost entirely rare javazon from bnet (she used forti, but everything else was a rare item), and I was thinking it would be a lot of fun to guardian something with some awesome rare circlet, dual res boots, ias/res/str/dex gloves, jeweler's armor of the whale, etc. Thoughts? Suggestions?

Cheers!

I might be willing to do this as an excuse for making another char. Fairly simple restriction

Yes, because it'll give me a reason to start a character. :)

Runes would be okay inserted in blue or yellow items. But it would have to restrict runewords.

Sounds good.

Socketing runes (or gems?) in blues or yellows could work ... but it might be interesting (more creative) to only socket jewels?

The only drawback I can see is that almost always you are going to be able to gamble much better items than you get from monsters, so that feeling when you spy a green or gold in a drop in the Envious of the Green and Gold tourney probably will be missing.

For socketables, I'm not fully decided yet. Obviously blue and yellow colored jewels, as well as sapphires/topazes, but runes I don't know. I'm leaning towards no.

As for the last bit - I'm inclined to agree with you based on my experiences, since in the later difficulties, gold is so easy to come by. I'll think about it and see if there's a viable solution. Any ideas?

If you look back in the tourney list thread, you can see that we have played tournies with magics-only (I've got the Blues) and rares-only (Rare Pleasures). But I think those tourneys had no restrictions as to what we could put in sockets.

Yes, few good items will indeed come from finds; gambled rares and shopped magic items will dominate.

A tourney that allowed only found (and rerolled/imbued) rares and only allowed rare jewels in sockets would be a real challenge for non-caster builds.

I did take a look through the list, and it looks like those tournaments were awhile ago, so I figured if the interest is there, might as well.

Perhaps a rule could be no gambling for rares/magics. Shopping would fine, but no gambling. Thoughts?

Personally, I would like to see something different. I am not excited about yet another equipment-color-restriction tourney.
