    I believe they're considered a hammer.

I don't know... Isn't Mace class a separate class? Like Flails and Devil Stars and all that?

Mauls and Mallots are both type "mace". Pretty sure it just means Mallots/Mauls.

Edit: Yeah I'm actually just guessing. :/

Oops forgot to check Arreat Summit but this is probly here too somewhere anyhoo, this is taken word for word

Body Armor = Any armor that is worn on your chest and not any type of other armor such as boots, helms, gloves, etc.
Helms = Any armor that is worn on the head, including helms, Barbarian Helms, Druid Pelts, and Circlets.
Shield = Any armor that can be used to block, including shields, Necromancer Shrunken Heads, and Paladin Shields.
Clubs = Club, Spiked Club, and Exceptional/Elite versions.
Hammers = War Hammer, Maul, Great Maul, and Exceptional/Elite versions.
Maces = Mace, Morning Star, Flail, and Exceptional/Elite versions. This does not include any other types of Maces.
Melee Weapons = Any weapon that isn't ranged such as a Sword or Hammer. A Bow or Crossbow is a ranged weapon. Sorceress Orbs are not considered Melee Weapons.
Missile Weapons = Bows and Crossbows
Weapons = Melee Weapons, Missile Weapons, Orbs
Scepters = Scepter, Grand Scepter, War Scepter, and Exceptional/Elite versions.

So yea i guess it would work as hammer can be Great maul or Elite version :)

Yes, Beast and Doom both work in a Thunder Maul. Thunder Maul is a hammer.

Before I quit, I had a Fireclaws Bear (used Armaggeddon also), after I found a 5 socket Thunder Maul in The Pit, I had planned on making Doom Thunder Maul as his end-game weapon, it would have been awesome. Imagine a bear with Holy Freeze on, Armaggedon working, and casting Volcanoes (from weapon) often enough. Not to mention the power of the weapon, whose slightly below avg speed would be offset by the holy freeze (slowing opponents). If there is one reason I almost didn't quit, it was thinking of my end-game Druid. Beast would have been fun too, but Doom appealed to me more.

    Bottom line: it will work
