Would a Inferno/Shiver Armor tank Sorc be a good idea ?

I get bored in class and start daydreaming usually (God bless ADD) or in this case surfing the internet instead of studying. Out of left field I had the urge to play some D2 and had an idea for a build.

I call it my PvM Toaster Sorc.

Basic Info:
20 Warmth
20 Inferno
20 Frozen Armor
20 Shiver Armor
20 Fire Mastery
3 Chilling Armor
1 Static
1 Telekenesis
1 Teleport

My general idea is to use freeze my enemy with Shiver Armor and blast away with Inferno. The Shiver Armor would also add some much needed defense since I would be tanking alot. Warmth is there for the insane ammount of mana Ill be spending and its synnergy bonus. Frozen Armor is there for the synnergy and early level defense. I added static for "help" if things get rough (Zap 'em and cook 'em). Telekenisis and Teleport are self explanitory and Chilling Armor got the last 3 points for the synnergy and I had nothing else to put them in.

A few questions I have (since Im not one of those people who live by a blocking calculator :p)-

1. Should I go for a shield ? I planned on pumping my STR to 70-75 so I can use a Tower Shield and Gothic Plate. Since Ill be doing up close and personal combat, I figured I needed all of the defense I could use. My dilemma is blocking vs more life. The

2. Im assuming since my Warmth is maxed I dont really need to worry about putting points in mana. I figure the regeneration rate would be more than enough since Inferno is only 10 mana per second AND I can always carry potions. I probably would add a few points early on to keep me "happy".

I plan on playing this HC and untwinked. Does this seem like a viable build ? What could I improve on or advice could I use ?

Thanks for your help.

From my knowledge of inferno this might not be super effective. The damage isn't that great, while it eats pratically no mana up while your casting you can do very little damage with it. I know that my pure fire sorc messes around with it sometimes and in act 4 of normal with a lvl 16 inferno (because of + items, i didn't actually waste the points. duh) she does little to no damage to anything.

But this of course is just my opinion and i'm sure some smart sorc person like melianor will chime in and say how wrong i am. which may be but at least i tried.

inferno is bugged and only does 50% of the dmg listed and only in a very small stream right in the center.
may i suggest blaze :D

I know that a slvl 99 inferno really kicks *** and has incredible range... good luck getting that though haw haw.
Also a maxed out armour sorc w/ max cold mastery takes apart melee characters since it deals damage on ATTACK regardless of whether it hits or not.

ya, inferno is bugged to only do 50% listed dmg, so its not effective now. and for HC, i really wouldn't try it when its not fully working.

but if you insist:
use a shield for the defense, but don't do block. do life. i made a pvp 09 classic inferno sorc and she was a hoss. she could tank 3 WW while barbequeing the barb. the logic i used in the build was this: i don't want to have to recast inferno because that wastes time that could be spent burning. blocking makes you stop casting and have to recast, but high defense does not. so i got all the defense i could and used a shield with as little blocking as i could find (with high defense and other mods). i was about to max a cold armor for defense, but she got rolled back and lost all her awesome gear.

you will need points in energy, inferno gets expensive.
