I don't mind Real ID being an option but I don't think it should be a requirement.

edit: looks like that is just for the forums, and not the games themselves. Interesting. I don't visit those. I didn't know it was apparently so out of hand.

as the thread approached 49000 posts of complaining, they finally rescinded this terrible decision

Haven't really paid much attention to it since I don't post on those forums. I think they were just looking for a way to get the forums to mature a little. Can't fault them for having a worthy goal.

do you know how stupid that sounds!?!

wrong way to go about it in any case, having an unattainable goal and an idiotic plan for failing to reach it that will alienate thousands of users isn't the best approach

who would want mature forums anyways?

I wasn't really against it, and would have continued to post anyway.

A better solution, however, might have been to let people choose to post with their names if they wanted, and then to have a checkbox in the user options that hides post from "anonymous" users.

    Best of both worlds.

Of course it is a bad idea. Real forum names would put those WoW players closer to having a real life.

    next sequel to WoW

Aren't these the same nerds that track down and kill each other if they can backtrack the real life ID?

Lot's of Liability if that DB gets loose on 4chan.

Really? They did? That is disappointing to say the least. *Strokes shotgun and whispers* 'Someday we'll get em. Someday'.
    Could have been so beautiful...

I can assure you it will be for real some day.

As usual when it comes to products or services such as the official forums and computer games, you vote with your mouth and not with your wallet. No need to whine about it on a forum, just stop using their forums and stop buying their products if you don't agree.

But maybe that's to adult for a large part of the population.

I canceled my account, so did plenty others

also, it was a change being made to the forums, so the natural place to discuss it is.... on those forums...

It's nice to let people know why you are quitting so they know what the complaint is.

No. It's nice to ask people what they want before forcing it down their throat.

And don't pretend, make believe or think up any silver ponies about them somehow not knowing how this would massive piss off their little happy bunch of players.

They listened to customer feedback and didn't implement it. Seems like it all worked out that way in the end.
You think Blizzard, on a daily basis, is actively trying to come up with ways to piss off the majority of their players? Sorry, but that's just retarded.

Blizzard may also be retarded for thinking everyone would just shrug and go with it, but that's not the same thing as malice.

Of course they waffled, dollar bills started to fly away and out of their hot little hands.

I think you or even I would have seen that this wasn't a good idea, right from any initial stage. Normally, as you've implied, they're not out to piss everyone off. So it worries me slightly about their intentions, I guess.

Worried? It should be no surprise that their intention is making as much money as possible. Things are fine if the aspect of losing money makes them abandon silly ideas. There are situations in which it might be the other way around, however.
