Wolf or Bear?

Wolf or Bear?

I have never played a shifting druid before, and was kind of interested in doing so soon. I was unsure of which one I should go for though, werebear or werewolf. I know that bear adds to defense when you shift, which is sexy, and wolf adds to AR, which is awesome too.

I am curious to know what your opinions are on the matter and which build you would recommend for the one you chose. I was mainly thinking of a fury wolf or some kind of bear (not too sure on this one yet).

Thanks!

Heya,

My view may seem really limited to some, but I look at it like this:

Want physical damage? Wolf.
Want elemental damage or Summons? Bear.

My reasoning is, the Bear doesn't have attack skills which nail multiple enemies at once, the way a Wolf does. The added damage/def from Bear isn't that fantastic when you look at your attack skill options. Maul is the only real `attack' skill that is for the bear only, and the damage is so-so compared to Fury. The Stun is inconsequential in my mind due to having a 1 point Shockwave that goes beyond Maul's stun any day of the week in terms of utility. Fireclaw is an excellent way to get damage without going physical, so a bear works fine for that. Hunger is also a nice skill for a bear if you look at the Kodiac setups. Also, Amageddon is an option if you wanted a Wereform/Elemental hybrid. The bear gives you more base life to work on.

The wolf on the other hand has powerful melee skills for physical damage. Fury has really high output and hits lots of enemies and is really fast. It's super zeal. 10k fast wrecking is very easy to achieve on a Wolf. The attack speed & AR will be higher on the wolf as well, so you will deliver the pain.

So when it comes down to it, look at your gear available, and look at what kind of melee character you want, or if you just want something other than melee, like a Summoner or elementalist. For example, I have two werebears. One is a summoner that uses Shockwave to stun while the summons eat things. The other shifts into bear and shockwaves and uses Hunger while letting a near max synergy Armageddon fall around him. I personally don't like Maul werebears due to it's single-hit nature and how it requires a lot of points and high damage weapon to really do much with.

If you're limited on gear, Fireclaw works well on either a Wolf or Bear. Fury works well with very mediocre gear. My fury wolf used the Steeldriver for a long time, which you can buy for 1 pgem easily, then finally built up to using a better weapon, like an eDeath decapitator (kind of pricey unless you have plenty of wealth). Then again, there's the Tombreaver. If you have gear, a Fury wolf can be nasty good for very little resource required. A bear can be the same, but he will have less physical output compared to a Wolf overall.

Anyhow, think about how you want to deliver damage, how you want to play, and look at what you can afford. Or if you're untwinked, think about that too in terms of progression.

Cheers, :sunny:

Mainly for the reason that fury attacks multiple targets is the reason that I was leaning toward wolf. Plus, I saw a guy on my friend's list the other night with his fury druid and it looked like zeal on steroids.

The answer is pretty obvious. Bears have tons more sex appeal than wolves. So make a Bear.

if you're rich then make a bear because as already stated they are super sexy. If you have a limited budget bear will not be nearly as effective as a wolf so in that case make wolf.

Thats a blatant lie. You can make a good fire claw for pretty cheap. The most expensive gear for it would be an Enimga or CoH. And of course hape life GCs if you don't want to settle with plains. IMO you can make a good bear for cheaper than a good wolf.

fury druid with upped ribcracker, jalals, lionheart etc. is very cheap and effective. fireclaw bear can also be built with small budget. ss skillers are cheap, 6os pb with shaels is dirt cheap. all you have to worry about is fire immunes but i believe with a little searching you'll find threads about how to deal with them. oh and bear has shockwave which is godly

both will work well considering how little you have to invest in them. if you've got wealth go with whatever you feel like... build summoner with bow aka hunter or shockwavesummoner (check guides). absolutely two most fun characters in this game!

I was under the impression that he was looking for a physical damage character. Generally fireclaws builds dont limit the player to either a bear or a wolf since no significant investment is made into either werewolf or werebear skills.

~Wolf Growl!~

LoL.

I just noticed the counter on your website.

Typical of a werebear to fight wolfkin with silly counters & text on websites rather then fighting fang to paw.

:wink2:

Here be right back in one second i forgot to equip an item..... **cough** hotspurs.

:starry:
Haven't I beaten your wolf with my bear? Oh yeah I did. Afk.

I'm sure it was only because the werewolf were grooming his fur and getting ready, and you saw the opportunity to sneak up on the holiest of holy rituals of the werewolf and land a hit on the backside of his head.

Uncool!
