Witch - without the Doctor?

First off, I'm not a fan of the coulda, shoulda kind of talk, also not here to flame Blizzard or anything but I just wanted to open this discussion for a long time, and interested in people's opinions and what not.

When Blizzard were discussing potential classes, I'm sure with the Witchdoctor name they must have come across the idea for a Witch class. I don't understand why they didn't choose the Witch as a class for D3. Personally I think it would be such a cool class for the following reasons:

(1) No-ones ever done a Witch class in a mainstream rpg (to my knowledge), so they would have such potential to have a very unique take on a Witch.

(2) In my humble opinion :smug:, the idea of a Witch class would fit the Diablo world so well in regards to the atmosphere and ambience, with the 'blackdress' of Witch etc.

(3) There was a Witch in Diablo 1, as I'm sure everyone remembers Adria  So Lore wise it would fit because Witches exist in the world

(4) All the Necromancer fans would be much more pleased with a Witch if the Necro had to be taken out as a Witch class has that dark, 'blacky' edge to it.

I just wanted to find out what everyone else thinks of this?
Thanks

It could be because they have both male and female chars'
Even if it in all fairness should be possible to have male witches, it feels weird :)

Gender neutral characters is the theme of Diablo 3 classes...

Witch Docs fit in with Sanctuary too. Everyone who played D2 recalls the third act, with its jungle ambiance and tribally inspired NPCs and enemies. Witch Doc fits fine.

Necro fans will get their wish with the expansion, I could almost guarantee it. Look, I'm a Necro fan too, and at first I wasn't really feeling the Doc either. But I got over it, and realized Blizzard is throwing a curveball here, but a curveball that still made sense and worked in the Diablo world. Is the Doc my favorite character? No, but he still looks interesting and fun to play.

Really, I would think Diablo fans would be more upset about the health/mana globe travesty than this...:dontknow:

Obviously someone has not read the witchdoctor's lore in the D3 forum

Who are you to speak on behalf of the necromancer population? The witch-doctor is just fine, he's not filling in the necromancers shoes either, that was revealed by Jay Wilson a while ago.

Charmed?

lol.

war·lock [wáwr lòk]
(plural war·locks)
noun
sorcerer: a man who is supposed to be a sorcerer or wizard
OP: I like the idea, but witch is too close to wizard for my liking. Obviously you can make her skills different from the wizard's in the way they've done with the witch doctor by giving her potions (firebomb, poison, healing cloud), summoning skills and curses. Those are all things associated with witches, and close to the necromancer. It actually fits well.

But then you're basically just changing the witch doctor's image and not his function. Blizz have also said they want to create strong archetypes, and witch/wizard are mighty close.

Witches are in Sanctuary, but they won't be a class for Diablo 3. We already got the two spellcaster classes. The next one will be ranged and the other one will be a melee class that wears heavy armor and yields a sheild.

In Cains journal he talks about how Adria is a witch with great knowledge of the Arcane magics....which is a new kind of magic that will be in D3.

I think a witch could be possible or a Arcane knight maybe? Apprentices of Adria with sword and shield?
