Wires on usb microphone

I came home tonight to discover the outer casing of my precious USB mic mangled. It seems to have had a close encounter with a castor on my chair (I claim innocence  ).

Can anyone tell me if I can repair/splice this sort of damage? There are exposed wires on the inside, with another wire casing inside of the exposed wire.

electrical tape.

or use a mircophone with an xlr to 1/4 inch adapter. stronger cable, better sound quality.

My dad used to use this plastic stuff to repair the covering on wires, you just heat it up a bit until it's malleable and plonk it down, it bonds with the rest of the covering and sets. That's assuming the exposed wires are undamaged.

Electrical tape will be fine. Go in a spiral twice.

I do have to wonder why the microphone was on the floor. . .or your chair on the desk.

the USB port is on the front of my computer, which sits in the space under my desk. The microphone was on my desk, but apparently enough of the line was on the floor to get run over.

The chair on the desk would have made for a much more interesting explanation:

"dear Penthouse, I never thought it would happen to me..."

if its the wire between the usb adaptor and the mic then it depends on what kind of wire was used,
if its a foil/cloth it cant be fixed easily
if its standard wire, just splice and tape it up, if you have a small soldering iron around use it
