    Will o’ the Wisp?

What is the Will o’ the Wisp? I know that it is common name of Ghosts, but why are they called so? Is it the name from a common game of from a common myth?

A wisp is a bit of burning hay or straw; Will is short for William, just a name being used for the spirit carrying around this source of light. This referred originally to "swamp gas"--the glowing lights you can see out in foggy, spooky areas sometimes.

I guess it comes from those guys who play D&D as well.

I never heard it in conjunction with Diablo, but I would rather think that gloams and all those ghosts which are nearly invisible when not attacking are meant with Will'o Wisp, as the D&D Will o' Wisps behave much like that (invisibility, electrical attack).

I defy you to find another gaming population with a quote from Samuel Taylor Coleridge on the tips of their fingers for easy, cogent access.
