Will Deckard Cain Die?
I ask this mainly because of the following:
Basically, the way I see it, Leah may be being groomed to replace Deckard Cain as the game's narrator in subsequent titles. The reason for this is time. With twenty years having passed since the first two games, Cain is without doubt remarkably old given the average life span in-game. Given that Cain probably won't live long enough for the next game should significant time pass between them (such as in the case between Diablo 2 and 3), it could be seen as better use of the character to have him killed off memorably to further the plot and add 'drama'.
I ask this mainly because of the following:
- Blizzard has mentioned that Diablo 3 will be the end of the current arc of the series.
- Cain is normally depicted as the sort of 'narrator' of the game. But in the Diablo 3 trailer, the narrator was a new character named Leah.
- Leah appears to be a NPC directly related with Cain and is heavily speculated to be an important character.
- Blizzard doesn't shy away from killing off major characters to make way for new ones.
