Will both claws work if....

If I am using the regular attack on the left mouse button, will the claw in my right hand ever be used? It animates like its being used, but I am not sure.

Assuming I put zero points whatsoever into MA, is a second claw useful or should I grab a shield? This build will only be using the Shadow Tree of skills.

The second claw is certainly used with Normal Attack.

In brief, the basic difference between c/c and c/s:

Weapon Block vs. Shield Block
Elemental blocking vs. higher physical blocking, resists, and maybe PR%
Higher VIT (life) vs. higher DEX (AR)
Better +skills vs...ugly. :D

In general, I'd say that dual claw has less to offer a pure Shadowsin than it does many other builds, mostly because you should be less +skill dependant. The real answer would depend on what eq you had available.

No, the second claw is not used for anything except averaging with your first claw for weapon speed with normal attack.
Normal attack sometimes switches which claw used (possibly due to your base stats and requirements, which was equiped first, which side, etc.).
It never uses both claws though, and you get no advantage to using 2 claws with normal attack.

The elemental martial arts DO take advantage of dual-claw.
Fists of fire + claws of thunder + blades of ice + dragon claw + claw block are the only 5 skills that can make use of dual claw.
Not even pheonix strike uses the second claw.
It's sad, but true.

It's neither sad nor true. If you use Normal Attack, you will swing with both claws, alternating between them with each attack.

You are right that there are claw attacks that don't swing the secondary--they are the three "strikes": Tiger, Cobra, and Phoenix.

So you claim that when using a Normal Attack means you only attack with the primary claw? That's wrong. Normal Attack 'switches' between the claws with every click.

I was claiming that there is no advantage to using 2 claws with normal attack.
It switches claws but doesn't use both of them is what I was trying to say.
Though it switches claws, does it attack faster than if you were using 1 claw/shield?

I know the blades skills attack faster if you have 2 claws equiped, it does what appears to be a double-swing and both claws hit.
Normal attack seems to be the same speed with 1 or 2 claws.
It seems to only use 1 claw, even though it switches which claw it uses.
