Widescreen and Resolution!

16:10 or 16:9 WS

I suspect Blizz might cather to both. I think the only consolation is that D3 is a 3D app so...implementation isn't as tedious as say...2D which is hardcoded.

Even valve allows a slew of resolutions (standard/widescreen) for the user so i don't see a problem.

It's 2009 after all.

Yknow, a REALLY smart solution would be to arrange the interface differently depending on aspect ratio... top/bottom interface for standard users, sides interface for widescreen users... giving everybody roughly the same gameworld shape.

Of course, I would have to prefer it if they just made a really flexible (and preferably moddable) interface, so you could set it up as you like, in which case the widescreen folks probably get their advantage back :/

I like 16/10 more than 16/9 since it leaves enough black area in most HD movies to fit subtitles. You also get more vertical space in games... seriously now, if they drop another number we'll be at 16/8... or better said 2/1...

Re: Widescreen and Resolution!

widescreen sure looks nice and from the screenshots it looks like it will be in the game for sure.

I wonder how it's going to impact pvp where players are in direct competition with one another. In d2 using the corners is pretty huge for pvp gameplay, knowing distances someone can teleport or cast from and so on. Would be unfair if some resolutions gave more screen area on the sides to click on opponents with, kinda like 800x600 is an unfair advantage vs 640x480 in d2. Im not sure how blizzard is going to go about making sure this is not a problem in d3.

But widescreen sure does look nice from an aesthetics standpoint.

Well I think pvp shouldn't affect on how Wide screen is being displayed. People with more powerful computers already gain advantage in pvp when they are able to use much bigger resolutions than others.. so it shouldn't matter. Same goes for internet connections.. if you play pvp with modem, you know what kind of disadvantage you have.

In COD4 they did the right decision imo.. with 4:3 monitor you see less than with 16:10 for example.. it's up to you if you want to invest some more money for widescreen for better view.
