WoW can be played in almost any resolution you throw at it, i doubt things will be different for Diablo 3.I think it's imperative that they make this game viewable in the full range of high resolutions that are available now. Even if the graphics aren't 100% cutting edge by the time it's released, they should at least be able to be shown on a big screen, if that's your thing!
I am looking forward to playing this on my old 21" Standard screen LCDHere's to hoping that Blizzard knows what's up and allows for "Standard" screen support and all sorts of resolutions to fit any monitor out there.![]()
Seeing how the camera seems to be fixed in Diablo 3 at a certain height (As in you can zoom in but you hit a wall when zooming out), I'm thinking its gonna be like WoW, and be a mixture of both. The question really isn't whether D3 will be widescreen, that's rather obvious from the gameplay video released. The question is how they will present it. Below are the possible ways they will do it.
Vert-: They crop the top and bottom of the screen to make it fit. A cheap and easy method that punishes widescreen users.
Hor+: They expand the viewable area to the left and right side of the screen, this is the best and preferred method.
A mixture of both Hor+ and Vert-: Adding to the sides and cropping the top and bottom, this is how WoW does it and, if properly done, is probably the most fair way to do widescreen.
Obviously as an owner of a widescreen monitor I'd prefer the Hor+ method.
Check the current market, and new lines of displays in all resolutions. Seems all the major producers already jumped on the 16:9 bandwagon. In other words, 16:10 future seems not be be as bright as it appeared to be year ago... Maybe production costs? Or ease of manufacturing?16:9 wouldn't be the default. That may be the standard for widescreen TVs but 16:10 is the standard for widescreen computer monitors.
