Why would a Paladin have trouble hitting monsters?

Why would a Paladin have trouble hitting monsters?

I was reading a guide that suggested a Paladin get a Merc with the Blessed Aim aura. I'm wondering why one of two melee built classes would have trouble hitting monsters.

It doesn't make a lot of sense to me that he'd run into this problem. I could understand a Sorceress or Necromancer, since they don't make a living hitting stuff, they use spells.

your character level is one big factor in chance to hit. you need to be around or above the monster level to have a good chance or suffer big penalty. then theres attack rating which helps a lot too. you can get more ar by using ar per level items like ring+ammy of angelics or sigon helm+glove

Blessed aim is sometimes suggested for a ranger, where pala can't use his combat skills (which usually adds nice percentage to AR). It does also make sense for tesladin or freezer, because they usually use a low level zeal which doesn't add much AR.

BTW. there is no AR bonus related to character class. Paladin with a normal attack will have the same chance to hit as a sorceress with the same level, DEX and gear.

my freezealot has maxed zeal, some AR gear AND some AR charms, but he still needs his blessed aim merc to get to the 90+% chance to hit that he wants

Every character would have the same problem, as 90% chance to hit is fairly tough to reach with just normal gear on. You'd always have to go the extra mile for that percentage.

AR drops exponentially lower per lvl.

For example, my paladin who has 5.8k AR (ITD weapon so who cares) has a 86% chance to hit The Returned mobs. My Zon with 17.1k AR has only 91% chance to hit.

Once AR goes over 10k, it effectiveness drops dramatically. After the 10k mark, it is better to get mods like ITD or -% defence.

I thought this was about my very low level paladin (again, single player) who has troubles hitting monsters. I sometimes think he as an aura called "terrible aim"
