Why is there so much lag in TCP/IP games?

Even when i am the host, monsters still teleport around. Why?

I tried hosting a game to play with a friend and he had terrible lag. Kept getting disconnected and his items going missing. And when we did the blood raven fight, i stood there hacking away at a zombie with 95% hit rate and wasnt dealing any damage whatsoever(due to lag). He's behind a router with firewall turned off.

Any ideas on how to improve the lag? Will hamachi help? We both have broadband connections in a small country.

There is a considerable large list of things that can be causing your lag problems. The best question I can ask to knock off a lot of them is to ask you if you have similar lag issues with other games played like this?

Huh? Well yeah but I thought you wanted to discuss lag what with all the bumps. *shrug*. The Act V merc is the most aggressive so if you can equip him well he can be quite nasty.

Do you use the ping command? If not the press the windows key + R (at the same time). Type in cmd and press enter. Now type: ping xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx

The x's should be substituted for the numbers in the ip address you are trying to connect to. The one typed in when connecting to another computer. When you do this tell us what it says. Don't give me the ip addresses just the speeds that have the 'ms' next to them.

Firstly there's a technical issues thread in this forum. Here.

    Secondly, don't bump.
