and why is *** allowed? out of the two i believe *** is the more offensive word for homosexuals..

It's obvious: there are tens of thousands of brats out there who call people the G word just to be mean, so some mod was smart enough to disallow this.

So it goes like this:
-Brat doesn't like what you said in a post.
-Brat calls you the G word.
-Brat then sees it got sensored.
-Brat recalls the rule about not trying to bypass the language filter.
-Brat refrains from calling you or I the G word in the future.
-You and I are so much better off since we are not being called the G word every 3rd post or so.
-Everyone wins, the forums are a better place.

Probably because people use the word a lot in a derogatory sense about things that have nothing to do with homosexuality, and hence homosexuals and a weird group of people who just seem to like being offended on behalf of others get all bent out of shape.
At least that's the spiel I usually get when I say it. They probably just got tired of seeing the same 6 page argument go down every time someone said it.
I can only guess as to why *** isn't censored. My guess would be that it just plain isn't used as much and therefor doesn't make for such the issue that *** does.
You could say a situation was ***, for instance and a giant argument would occur but might not readily contain any banworthy offenses. Chances are, however, that if your calling people fags you are probably going to be warned about harassment pretty quick and you will either lay off or meet the ban stick. It's a situation that's easy enough to deal with, where there is a lot larger gray area with the word ***.
Filters are imperfect and the more you censor the harder uncensored communication can become, so I guess maybe you have to worry about the words that really cause a fuss and others can maybe be dealt with on a need be basis.
Could also be, the guy who made the filter list just forgot ***. Seems unlikely to me though.

Maybe 'stupid' should be banned, because it's offensive to call someone stupid. Add 'retarded' to the list. 'Fat' is offensive.

Or do some groups get extra privileges when it comes to not being offended? Specifically jewish people and homosexuals? What about overweight mentally challenged, or just plain stupid people?
