Why is Smite a good pvp skill? Seems like it would be crappy to me

I never saw a smite paladin in any duels besides people saying they made them on boards.. but Ive learned that a regular attack will miss 100% of the time, including one like smite, if the person is just moving anywhere, walking or running. Why would smite be any good unless the person your trying to kill is just standing still there.. im just confused how it could be better then something like charge that would lock on and not miss them..

Smite is unblockable and requires no attack rating.

If you're missing with melee attacks while your opponent is moving 100% of the time, you're simply going about it incorrectly.

Charging to cause knockback and then going in for a smite which stuns, can knock back and never misses is a common strategy which helps to achieve hits.

charge + smite is an oldie and a goodie

what is this 100% missing weirdness?

well, if you wanted to be sure and hit more the range of smite is determined by the range of your weapon if you want to be sure and keep them from running out of range as easily

I really wanted to make a charging paladin recently but I heard if I do I will be forced to only pvp, since its a un-pvmable build. I just really want to do it because I love being able to run fast, and I heard its the fastest possible build for speed.

Yes, keep in mind range is an important factor when trying to hit a moving opponent. The speed of your initial attack (for smite the fastest attack is 6 frames) and the range of your weapon are important. If you are just name-locking them and they have enough frw to move three yards on screen before you go through the 6 frame animation then you're not going to be hitting them with a range 3 weapon. If you were using a range 2 weapon they'd have to have 33% less runwalk to achieve that.

Of course there is also people who teleport, but the fastest casters are sorcs at 7 frames, which smite beats at 6 frames.

Of course name-locking is not the best way to hit, moving around to acquire a position where they will be more or less running into your attack or running by you within range when you get the attack off is the best way to go about it in my experience, but then again I tend to use auto-aiming attacks like fury and zeal and it is much more difficult to pull off with an attack like smite, but really not too much since it's unblockable and requires no attack rating.

Charge + Vigor is the fastest thing that I can think of in the game. I think it might even travel faster than a sorc teleporting at max frames, but don't quote me on that. Only problem is you can't go through walls etc. ;)

Going off my previous experience with charge I'd say it was a very poor p v m skill, but it maybe more possible in 1.10 (or less). Either way I'd definately have a good backup skill.

I've tried it and a decked out vigor/charge beat a max frame sorc on a race.

Smite = unblockable
Charge = requires a LOT of AR

Charge/smite is a good combo for PvP btw...
