why is HOTO underated by sorcs?

I don't get people using eschuta's that can easily afford HoTO. I mean what's better, a slight bit of extra damage and a socket, or 40 resist all, life replenish, mana, etc?

Lets keep the flaming down and the topic up.
I would really prefer the "n00b" mentioning beiing left out.

The topic started with someone wanting to know why others would prefer different items over HotO. So you all show some respect for your knowledge or the lesser of others, thank you.

@Melianor - Thanks for that great post about the Tal Set.

One of the best posts I have read. So full of facts :)

@Topic
I use a full tals sorc normaly, with upg. viscertaunt, wts, magefist, 2x soj.
I have tryed my friends HOTO for a few days. I put on Shako, Arachnid, maras and got a few charms to get max resist again. But I killed alot slower, and after the weekend, I had no problem giving my friend his hoto back. It could be the 5/5 jewel that my tal orb has, that made a difference, but untill I get better items, I'm going to stick with my tals. But it's probably not correct to keep parts of tals set. When I get a better armour, (CoH) I'm going to try Hoto again :)

Btw, my sorc is meteorb sorc lvl 95, does 22 K Meteor/10 K Fireball. I have cta on switch.

I found HotO + pdiamond Whitstans to be a good teleporting combo (with Vipermagi). Then ist Occy + Rhyme for kill switch..

The faster block rate + low dex requirement of Whitstans is impossible to beat, and with HotO you have a bit more mana than with the occy. And the HotO also provides resists that Whitstans lacks. I did an informal test comparing HotO to Wizspike by spamming tele's with each, and I seemed to lose mana faster with the Wizspike.

I haven't found a Skullers yet; maybe I would have to swap out the HotO or Frostburns if I found one, or if I find more Tals gear, but with ptopaz Shako & Viper, jewelry, Gheeds and other charms etc I have around 400 MF and don't really need any more.

I guess the issue with sorceresses and HotO is that the sorc, as a dedicated spellcaster, has a lot more items that provide bonuses to casters. Especially ones that beef up her offensive capability. I'd say HotO is mainly aimed at non-sorc classes.. the ones who could be primarily spellcasters but need access to sorc-like items to do it. I.e. as others have mentioned: hammerdins, ele druids, singing barbs and the like.

However for a source of +skills, FCR, mana and resists on a switch, the HotO is still pretty nice for a sorc. I haven't found all of Tals yet, and I hate trading, so take this perspective with that in mind.

and I hate trading
It's a pity because trading can help you reach your goals much faster.

I guess you hate it because of numerous scammers on Bnet.
If that is the case I'd like to suggest the trade forum (or single player forum trade thread if you play SP) which inhebits mostly honest people. In case of a scam there the scammer risks being banned from the forum, which makes it not worthwhile.
