Why is HotO prefered over Eschuta's Temper for light sorc?

Eschuta's Temper does more damage. Is it the resists? Or the replenish life? Or the max mana increase?

Resists are important and all, but a sorceress is generally expected to not stand under incoming meteors or eat meph's cold ball.

Same skills and FCR, so with HOTO you get mana and big res, while with Eschuta's you get 15 Light (which is chickenscratch compared to the 400+ you get from LM), and an extra available socket

Most pvp sorcs go ES, so you will want hoto cuz of the mana increase, and the resistances. it has same skills and fcr, plus some rep life. eschuta's damage increase is really petty because it stacks on LM, unlike the case of deaths fathom for example.

How is Temper's damage boost different than death's fathom? They're both +% to skill damage.

It's more the difference between Cold and Lightning Mastery
Lightning Mastery already increases L damage by 400% or w/e it is, so 15% more isn't really alot to scream about. Whereas CM does -cold res - which once that is at the correct level means that +% cold damage is the way to go.

In general:
Light sorcs aim for -%Light res
Cold Sorc aim for +%cold skill

as shanksie explained, one adds direct damage while the other one adds passive pierce (-res), and at some point, at least for pvm, any more -res is useless and since CM doesnt give +% damage, Fathom is usually irreplaceable for a cold sorc. LM and FM already provide +% sd though, and the amounts from eschuta are really puny in comparison to the skill itself.

A way to imagine this is - a lightning bolt randomly rolls 1000 base damage. With +400% from lit mastery, that bolt deals 5000 damage. With +400% from lit mastery and +15% from eschutas that same bolt deals 5150 damage. The escuta's bonus accounts for only a 3% increase in damage.

well the mana really depends on your other gear, with my gear which I consider to be rather decent I get more mana from my eschuta then hoto, not by a big margin :) but the difference is there :p anyhow I would say that hoto is better then eschuta unless you can stay at max res whle using eschuta which then would make that better IMO.

Note also that the Eschuta offers another place to put a 5/5 light facet.

Hoto gives a more balanced set of stats. Also I prefer flails over orbs but that is another story.

I also think that a lowish hoto is alot cheaper than a perfect eschuta's (You must use a perfect with a 5/5 if you are going to use one)
