Probably a combination of the fact that if you get a really high durability ethereal armor, and ONLY wear that duress for pvp, it won't lose it's durability as quickly as it would, say, out in the chaos sanctuary going PvM.

With ethereal, you have higher defense, you get hit less often. And with a sheild, you take 75% of your hits on that. All of this adds up to less durability being lost from your armor.

And when you sit down and consider it, Duress = Shael Um Thul. Um is the only rare rune there, and it's not even all *that* rare. For the crushing blow and open wounds the armor offers, along with the high defense possible, some people might consider it worthwhile to make a "throwaway" armor for PvP only, knowing that it'll probably only last them a month or two (depending on how often they duel).

Exactly. You dont need to use it in every duel either, only vs really good opponents, which means that it lasts for a LOOOOOOOOONG time.

Just use a non-eth duress for regular bvb... =)
