Occasional shisha is pretty nice, a standard one to relax or a homemade for far higher intensity smoking that can actually give a fairly potent high. Cigarettes rarely do anything for me, I doubt I've smoked more than half a dozen over the last 2-3, always keeping smokers company, and mixing baccy in spliffs seems to negatively impact my sleeping. I'm told damiana is a decent alternative mixer but haven't smoked weed or the various legal highs I've tried like spice diamond and salvia in ages either.

To smokers: They're going to put a long catheter inside your penis. Please don't make me go into details.

Ok, here are the details. They inflate the catheter at the end so if you try to pull it out, you are pulling out something the size of a giant marble through your penis. It stays in there a good long time. In no particular order:
I don't really get any buzz from it.
I don't like the taste.
I don't like the smell.
I don't like the smell the next morning.
I don't like the taste the next morning.
I think it is too expensive.
I don't really want to die of any of the major smoking related illnesses as they look like slow and horrible ways to die.
I don't like the pre-mature aging it causes.
I value my fitness and don't want to damage my lungs.
There are other reasons but you get the general idea.
I don't suppose anyone can suggest a good reason why I should smoke?

^Well, yes. I have theories on this. Smoking is a way of saying "Look, my organs are tough and can handle this abuse. I am therefore tough. Since I am tough, I can survive a good beating, etc, etc, these are qualities of a good mate, etc. etc...You women should reproduce with me." Of course, this is all subconcious so the smokers have no idea they are doing it to send such signals.
But other than reproduction, there are few other good reasons to smoke. One theory, which is not mine, but is a general theory I learned in university, is that smoking is used to control arousal levels. If you are too tense and alert, smoking calms you. If you are too calm, smoking makes you more aroused and alert. It does both.

And as a guy I've never had too much trouble finding a 'mate' but I have turned down a number of women because I don't want to be with someone who I know to be anything more than a very light social smoker. I don't know that this point you raise is all that valid.
I prefer having my organs be tough rather than look tough to be attractive. That and not have yellow teeth and bad breath. Anyway - sounds a bit like pseudo science - couldn't you also say that it send the message "I am prone to addiction to substances and even though that substance causes a range of well documented health effects my willpower is too weak to quit - aren't I a good mate?".stillman said:

Isn't nicotine a stimulant, where the 'calming' effect is actually the easing of withdrawal symptoms caused by the addiction. And doesn't smoking cause impotence?

Well PFSS, the second theory is from actualy studies, and nicotine really does have both calming and arousing effects. I guess they don't care about the calming effect coming from relief of the craving; it calms nonetheless. "It is what it is."
The first theory was just my own crude idea based on simple observation: women seem to like males who flaunt toughness MORE than males who do not flaunt toughness. Women seem intruiged by men with tattoos, piercings, addictions, etc (anything that shows a man can endure pain and punishment). I believe this is simply a trait of primitive times; the most violent, aggressive spear thrower does well in fighting/hunting/providing, so this is a 'good' mate in womens' eyes.
Although smoking causes impotence, this likely occurs after reprodcution has occured. Little Billy will be just like his Dad and carry on the flaunting of toughness. The girls in grade 5 are already talking about his leather jacket.

I suspect actual confidence impresses more than posing.
I also suspect that the 'agressive spear thrower' impresses more when he doesn't end up wheezing for a while after throwing with less strength due to his weakened condition caused by his addiction he can't shake due to poor willpower.
Have you tried actually going up to women and saying "I think you're hot so I decided to come over here and introduce myself, I'm (Insert Name Here)."

In addition to impotence, smoking is also known to cause infertility. I'm still not seeing a convincing argument that it aids reproduction...

I've been without for 6+ months after 7-8 years. Reasons I stopped (no gum or patches to prolong nicotine stains in my system):
To see if I can stop and what's the use? it doesn't go to your head. Well it does, but not that much it being beneficial. I smoke weed for that, much better kicks
And I haven't noticed any changes in my concentration, stress levels etc. Only that I can smell and taste better. And hangovers are more mild now!

No it makes hanging much worse. Nicotine, or some of other thousand poisons added in the factories. Or wherevever they make the "tobacco". I could break my non-smoking for one handrolled cigaret made just from the tobacco leaves, right there in the plantations. That is some heavy sh.. ..poop, I've heard.

This is referring to cigarettes.
The smell is honestly one of the worst smells to me. Every since i was little, and my parents would smoke, the smell would always bother me. I hate every single thing about cigarettes. Whenever you are around cigarette smoke for a long time, your skin develops this thick greasy/oily coat, your hair feels the same type of greasy. I have tried one cigarette in my life, and i couldnt finish it. The taste is awful, the smoke makes your body feel nasty, the smell makes me light headed.
Though i used to smoke Black and Milds, and when i was younger i smoked weed for a few months. Those were tolerable to me, but cigarettes i have absolutely no tolerance for.

i don't smoke because the smell gets in everything. i don't smoke because i am cheap. i don't mind the smell of the smoke when people are smoking, or especially if i am drunk, but when it lingers its a lot less attractive.
my plan is to avoid as many addictive habits as i can, and to trade one off for the other if i can.
