Why do you or don't you smoke?

My new year resolution is less cigarettes and less booze. I didn't really smoke til I got back from Asia last Fall. Over there everyone seems to be smoking.

I admit it's about getting high. There's a certain rush of nausea accompanied by increased heart rate and then a calmness of my nerves. I don't think I am addicted yet...My favorite brand is Parliament.

So why do you or do you not smoke?

Your success chances depend a lot on how much it is, how long you are already smoking and on your smoking habits. Are you smoking each day ? Is it somehow a fixed part of your everyday activities ?

If yes, it's better to give it up entirely, that's far easier than reducing it. If you are just an opportunity smoker (i.e. only on parties or when hanging around with friends), reducing it might work.

I for myself am smoking. It's exactly 7 cigarettes on work days (I'm counting them !), about 10 on free days, more on parties (beer and cigarettes combine so well :smug, except it's not allowed to smoke inside. I'm not smoking at work at all, I leave the coffin nails in the car and none of my colleagues is smoking. I tried to give it up about three times. The longest non-smoking time was about 2 months.

I'm smoking for the pleasure, i.e. the reward centers of my brain produce happiness hormones when the yearning lessens (correct clumsy English, my dictionary failed a bit at a few terms here).

Mark Twain said that giving up smoking is one of the easiest things in the world, he gave it up about 100 times... or something like that.

I start retching when I inhale smoke. So I don't smoke. I've done hookah a couple times but I feel short on breath after, and for more than 1.5 hours or so I start feeling weird. But I hate smoke, especially cigarettes, so I don't really.

i occasionally bum cigarettes when im out drinking or with my smoking friends but its not that often. however i smoke hookah (tobacco only) 5-7 times a week with my favorite flavors being coconut and banana milk. banana milk sounds much less weird in hebrew.

A friend of mine has an almost-a-wife-girlfriend who is a heavy smoker.
My friend says his penis smells of tobacco.
There are issues about smoking beyond health or money concern that cannot be allowed!

...just curious, how does the banana milk sound in hebrew moo-cow?

I have never smoked and have no desire to ever smoke. It has killed too many people in my family.

Mainly it doesn't come out sounding like there are some freak-of-nature bananas that produce milk. the picture on the 40g boxes imported from Jordan (or Egypt, can't remember) had a picture of a banana and a glass of milk. the sign in the bucket at the store I buy from just has the words and a picture of a banana. phonetically its ba-na-na (all soft a's) cha-lav (cha like an american movie russian saying hello, lav like law except with a v). I don't know what the default fonts are that show up, but in hebrew it looks like ???? ???.

Im just asking because my cousin brought me a military-themed tshirt from israel and it says:

????? ???"?

I know what that should say according to the vendor but wasnt sure its not something funny instead like these bananas. You know like when you get a cool chinese-style tattoo and later on you find out it says "fried noodles."
Would you say hebrew is difficult to learn for an european?

Would you say hebrew is difficult to learn for an european?

I would say that "redundant" would be the proper word for hebrew as a second language considering it's a language spoken by about 7 million people and depending on Irans nuclear weapon situation, it's a language that might not even exist in a couple of decades.

I am pondering when I would be considered addicted. 1-2 a day? 1/2 a pack, 1 pack...

Certain popular brands like Marlboro, Camel, etc. does nothing for me. It's like inhaling burnt paper.

Kool and Parliament gets me a high.

I've never had any good feeling associated with the relatively few times I attempted to "socially" smoke. And I've had one cigar - again I don't see why people do it.

Ditto with alcohol. I had to really try to get a buzz. I succeeded exactly one time with the aid of my (then) future wire. I have far too high of a tolerance combined with a natural inclination against drinking stuff that tastes horrible.

sayeret matkal is the elite commando unit in Israel so it doesn't look like they sold your brother a shirt that says stupid american in hebrew.

As far as learning hebrew I've been told its easier than learning english. the writing goes from right to left and uses a different script but almost all the words fit the rules.

Because While I Admit I am Addicted to Smoking.
I genuinely enjoy the lifestyle now, and I don't want to cost the next generation the cost of supporting me for 30 years in a husk of my formar self.
So I'm committing suicide and giving myself the chance to change my mind.

1 to 1/2 a day depending on the day.

There is an excuse for any language not to learn it isnt there?
Not a second one for me surely. I feel like learning something civilized with history. A threat from mullah-runned country is irrelevant.
And Iran might get nuked as well...

And back to smoking - I have been to a non-smokers pub (which is an unusual kind of pub here) and must say its good for having lunch but horrible to party in. I feel like the smoke from cigarettes sort of belongs to the party atmosphere?

Don't see the appeal, it stinks. There was a guy on the train today who sat in the seat behind me and I had to move because he was surrounded by that long-term smoker miasma. And a few stops later another one of the reeking bastards sat behind me...

My parents were heavy smokers so it didn't seem cool either.

I'm smoking 15-20 cigarettes a day and have been smoking for 13 years. Self rolled tobacco, since those Marlboro's etc. won't do anything for me. Yeah it's lame and stupid and I wouldn't suggest it to anyone.

For me the addiction is mostly social since pretty much all my friends smoke. I have tried to quit a couple of times, longest break was 3 months. Nowadays I'm just smoking.. not even thinking about quitting.
