why are some mobs so tuff?

I've played many types of chars that used phys, fire, cold, magic, and lightning. for some reason, the same monsters are hard to kill no matter what. why is that?

the one that consistently is almost as hard to kill as a boss are the vampires. sometimes, if they are minions or are immune to my main attack, i rather skip them than anything else.

minotaurs are also hard to kill, although not as often as the vampires.

this doesn't seem to be the result of .10 blocking. i can whack at them and see their health edge downwards, but no matter what i use, they seem to be almost invulnurable to most attacks.

i have 3 theories:
1. they have bugged health, so it takes longer to kill them.

2. they have inherent damage reduced.

3. they can leech off of their elemental attacks.

Not true, they just have lots and lots of life. If something is hard, why should it be instantly bugged?

True, but every creature in hell has that. It's between 25 and 50 for most 'normal' monsters. Minotaurs have 66%, and one species is PI.

3. they can leech off of their elemental attacks.
Not true. Because of their immense amount of life they regenerate it back fairly quickly too.

ah, that would explain it.

i would say bugged because it is so out of line with the other mobs in the game. among non-boss/minion, vampires seem to be 10-20X harder.

roughly how much health do the have now?

First encounter (catacombs 3):
4 - 5k nonladder on hell
5 - 7k ladder on hell

Last encounter (Worldstone keeps):
7 - 9k nonladder hell
9 - 12k ladder hell

When you first meet them, they'll have less life than those in the Worldstone keep. Those are for players 1 and normal minotaurs only. Per additional player another 50% is added, and Champions and Uniques have between 2 and 4 times as much life (not sure exactly how much). Beserkers have between 50 and 66% less life, but do way more melee dmg.

Their other stats are this in hell:
75% leech efficiency
1/4th cold duration on top of cold resist
75% Physical resist
0% magical resist
33% fire resist
33% lightning resist
125% cold resist (only breakable by max conviction and lower resist together)
50% poison resist

They regenerate life about 2.5 times as fast as most other monsters and have the ability to steal life with their missile and melee attack.

Stick to hammerdins if you want to kill them relatively easy.

d2data.net. But it can't be trusted, since its data is off alot. When that site was made they didn't knew about area_lvls affecting Mlvls, thus using the wrong multiplication values.

The stats are for vampires, I made a typo:
Those are for players 1 and normal minotaurs only.
Minotaurs just have a helluva lot of life and 66% phys res. Vampires have both and more...
