Re: Who watches the Watchman? ME!

to answer that question in lengthy fashion

the squid was supposed to be some alien entity that exploded into our universe from a parallel dimension and destroyed half of New York, it was supposed to be the cataclysm that overshadowed the motives for war and ushered in peace, it was created by a creative team hidden on an island using various artistic and special effects, as well as a human brain from a deceased psychic. It was to be teleported to New York where the instability of teleportation technology would cause a massive explosion while the psychic's brain would cause unpleasant psychic backlash amongst sensitives. It was sort of like in Call of Cthulhu where everyone has the same horrible dreams and shared psychic experiences on a given night, only with an explosion killing millions of people as well. Incidentally it was the cadre of artists making the creature that the Comedian discovers causing his emotional breakdown. For it to work in the movie it would have required extensive set up, introducing the missing artist characters, and the grave robbery of the dead psychic, and then the explosion killing them all.

It wasn't needed, a couple lines of dialogue about Manhattan working with Viedt was all that was needed for the ending they did use.

ahh. Thanks for the explanation. I think I like the movie's version better. Although, now, I'll clearly have to read the graphic novel.
