    Whitstand guard or Moser blessed?

    Hi,
I'm building a max block sorc.
So shield wise, which is better?
    - Whistand guard + P Diamond VS Moser Blessed + 2x ELD Runes ?
    Thx

Whitstans has faster block so for block it is better.

I think it really depends on the other gears

If you have reached high resist without the shield (at least 50+) then go for Whitstan. Otherwise moser is better.

PS: Whitstan is a lot more common too

There is only sense in using Mosers when you are on ladder, so that you can upgrade it and get some +% extra blocking. Add Eld/PDiamond then and you are set and will have to invest a bit less DEX for max-block. Or you can also 2xPdiamond it then, for more res.

On None-Ladder its Whistans all the way. The faster blocking is also important!
Another good option would be upg Visceratuant with 72% chance of blocking +1 skills and faster blocking. Works nicely with a PDiamond inserted.

    Blocking tables:
    Code:
Dexterity required for max block (75%) for a sorceress

    shield str	block	dex/lv	LV30	LV50	LV80	LV99
    -------------------	---	-----	------	----	----	----	----
    Lidless Eye 58 40%	3.75	128	203	315	387
    Lidless Eye + Eld 58 47%	3.19	111	175	271	331
    Moser's Circle 53 57%	2.63 94	147	226	276
    Grim Shield + Rhyme 58 60%	2.50 90	140	215	263
    Sigon's Tower 75 64%	2.34 86	133	203	248
    Stormshield 156 67%	2.24 83	127	195	237
    Sigon's Tower + Eld 75 71%	2.11 79	121	185	225
    Visceratuant Heater 77 72%	2.08 78	120	182	222
    Gerke's Sanctuary	133 74%	2.03 76	117	178	216
    75% blocking shield 75%	2.00 75	115	175	213
    Whistan's Guard 53 87%	1.72 67	102	153	186
    Whistan's + Eld 53 94%	1.60 63 95	143	173

Bone/Grim Shields with Rhyme, Sanctuary, or Deflecting suffix have 60% block
    Sigon's Tower + Eld and Moser's Blessed Circle + 2 Eld's both have 71% block
Gerke's Sanctuary and Stormshield with an Eld rune both have 74% block

So Whistan's requires the least Dex!
(table taken from Meteorb guide at top of forum)

I've always liked Rhyme Grim Shield. Cannot Be Frozen, 25 to all resists, 25 MF, 40% faster block rate. Some really nice stuff if you ask me, and dirt cheap.

But thats just 60% block. If you go block, than go it all the way! Imagine how much dex you would have to invest to get 7% block on a Rhyme Shield ;)

@b2p, Visceratuant has the higher base block chance when upgraded.
looking at the table you might not save to much more dex when upgrading mosers since you will ahve to put some in str then to, to equip the shield.
So it might not be good to upgrade Mosers (sorry my bad), but just invest the needed dex into the normal Moser's to get Max-Block.

Upgrade is good but it adds req as well, so i'll loose points into STR. ( they only req 53 STR to use )
    Ok from table:
    Moser + 2 eld : 71 % block ( all resist 25 )
    Whistand + eld : 94 % block
    Whistand + P Diamond : 87 % block ( 19 all resist ) --> prolly the best way to go

Thx for all your comments. ;)

I'm using an uped, Viscer on my ladder sorc, and the increase in req is mostly a non issue. I say this as if your are glong to go to a max bloc sorc build, you'll beed dropping points into dex, and away from energy, and vitality anyway. The cure to replenish these is simple....small vital charms.

My total allocations for my max block archmage

Strength 107. This was also to allow we to stock a rhymed trolls nest for FM weap switch, and to wear my war travs.

Vitality 90 The rest i get from charms and equip.

Dexterity 203 Needed by lvl 90 for max block with viser

Energy 100 With my dual soj, I have never brought the bubble below 1/2.

BTW, with a max block build, leave ES at home. The reduction in energy points caused by going for max block(dex),mean that you need all your mana for attack. None to spare for (diverting hits to mana)

I also get + attributes from items, tal set, anni, and use 2 soj to keep mana regenerate up

    Cheers!

Visceratuant upgraded with Str req of 77 is imho the best you can get.
    str 77

    +1 skills
    30% increased chance of blocking
    30% faster blocking (!)
    +19 allres (PDiamond)

Whistan's is quite good aswell, ut you would not need to upgrade it, dont see the sense there since its max-block is already THAT good.

The only reason to upgrade Visceratuant is to get a better base-blocking!!

Your shield choice depends on your preferences. Need resist? Mosers. Need low dex therefor high life? Whistans. Need more damage? Visc.

    It's really that simple

    Exactly! :)

Though as I understand it, a tomato is strictly speaking a fruit - but makes a mighty fine soup anyway! And carrot and aspargus are clearly not fruit! You really have to pay more attention to your avatar Soep :p

Hmm, I seem to have taken this thread slightly OT - my apologies!
