Which weps for frenzy axe barb?

cheers Spankeh for clearin' that up, I understand completely now how all of it works. I was foolin' round with the German calc a little, and wondering why the Ettin wasn't getting to 5 fpa like the Z, even though ppl say that off-weapon IAS doesn't matter... so yeah I guess the difference between 5 fpa and 5.5 fpa is enough to make the almighty Berserker Axe king once again...

The str req isn't an issue, because an EBotDZ needs 101 str and grants +30 all stats, an EDeath Ettin requires 106 str, even at base str (30) with CoH (20), torch/anni (30-40), Arreat's (20) and EBotD (30) you'll have 130-140 str. Arreat's requires 118 str itself too

But if you can't get that 42% IAS because you don't have an IAS jewel for your Arreat's, or doing something mindless like using Dracul's Grasp or something, and you're willing to settle with 5.5 fpa at all times, then the Ettin is the way to go.

Beast Ettin still hits the 5 fpa speed with any of the off-hand weapon choices (EDeathZ, EDeathEttin, LWZ) with only 12% OIAS. And since Laying of Hand's and Highlord's ammy are Frenzy Barb standard equipment, there's no reason to use Z over Ettin for a main-hand Beast.


@the whole thread: this has answered a lot for me too. makes me a little more keen about making another Frenzy barb again. lol, my first char on the realms was a frenzy barb, and it ended horribly at the start of NM when I was getting pwned by NM cows.

As 5s eth zerkers are too expensive for me so no DeathZ, and I want to use what I can make, and I would like 5fpa, what would give more damage :
1. Ettin Beast and Death.
2. Zerker BotD and LW.

And BTW if you use LW what merc what you use instead of might merc?

5s 8ed War Spike (Grief/Beast)
5s Ettin Axe (Grief/Beast)
5s eth Ettin Axe (Death)
5s Berserker Axe (Grief/Beast)

Make the following:

5s Ettin Beast and 5s eth Ettin Death
6s eth Zerk BotD and 5s Zerk Grief

See how you go with those for awhile.

The Ettin combo is nice with Fanata and Crushing Blow for Ubers.
The Zerkers good for general game play, with increased damage to Undead and Demons.
LastWishZ.... just use for casting Lifetap and Fade if you must, and use an Act 2 might merc.

Add an Pride eth GPA and you give yourself some GG damage.
But Eth GPA Infinity will make your merc kill faster amzingly, which is what I've been using for awhile now.

OK thanks. I just restarted after reading your guide as I had pumped 30 strength points, and a point in leap. (Must remember next time to resurrect merc and get items b4 deleting char). I don't like being rushed, I prefer to solo. Playing with no points in strength is interesting, it's ruled out my Sigons.
I've played for years, but for barb always a WW barb. Frenzy seems fun as you to start double swing at level 6.
Merc weapon will be eth reapers (ber), or eth Infinity thresher.
