I prefer thresher of those three.

CV has an annoyingly high strength req, so cannot equip it when merc hits the level req of infinity without quite a bit of extra strength gear. The CA is better but I prefer the extra speed on thresher over the extra damage on CA, I want my merc to apply the cb as fast as possible.

infi merc with andy 15 ias and fort, might merc:
cb damage to regular monster: 0.25*0.4*6000(12k life monster at half life as an estimation)=600

    manual calculation:
cb damage to regular monster: 0.25*0.4*6000(12k life monster at half life as an estimation)=600
    merc ED: 1(base) +.60 (lvl 26 jab) + 2.3 (str with andy) + 2.6(might lvl 23)=6.5
    merc ED with fort: 1(base) +.60 (lvl 26 jab) + 2.3 (str with andy) + 2.6(might lvl 23)+3(fort) =9.5

    Infi dmg:
eth CA 15 ed: 91.5*1.5*4.4=603, with CB and ED 603*9.5+600=6328.5, DPS: 6328.5*25/6=26369
eth giant thresher 15 ed: 77*1.5*4.4=508, with CB and ED 508*9.5+600=5427, DPS: 5427*25/5.5=24668

    Treachery setup
eth giant thresher 15 ed: 77*1.5*4.4=508, with CB and ED 508*6.5+600=3902, DPS: 3902*25/4.5=21678

Conclusion: If you want to kill things fast, use eth ca infy, andy 15 ias, fort

If you can't be bothered to find a 30 fire res/15 ias jewel for your Andariel's Visage, an eth Great Poleaxe will do more damage by virtue of hitting a lower IAS breakpoint. It also has the maximum rangeadder... if that applies to mercs.

I usually go with ca but gp is nice too. I think cv is a bad choice.

I have the feeling that and eth GP is even harder to obtain than eth CA + fire resit/15 ias jewel combined...

    Rangeadder does not affect Mercs.

Other than that, I completely agree with Kijya. Another important factor for me is requirements, and Thresher is quite low in the str department there.

the reality is that in pvm you'll kill the critters way before your merc does..and for the light immunes probably the eth CV is best for survivability (IMO ), as I noticed when the merc life got lower to me the CV got more life leach. Better more life leach with a slower weapon than fast hits and your merc dies (another 50k in gold down the tubes). I recall testing this a few years back when dupes were plentiful and everyone had multiple infinities. It's probably the cheeziest pole arm due to speed and and strength requirements..but the only time i really needed a merc to kill critters were the total immunes. Hope I'm wrong..as I agree this polearm sucks

Re: Which polearm is best for infinity?

I always figured (giant) thresher was best because it laid down the crushing blow the most often.
As for life leech, I haven't done the calculations, but I'd figure somewhat that the faster leech offsets the fact that you leech less somewhat.

Whatever you get, make sure it's superior, because if you're going to be putting Ber Ber into something it better be something good.

Then spend the runes you were going to use for infinity, and instead use them to buy a sup 4os elite pole :p

I'd rather have a 15% superior insight thresher, than a infinity thresher, because the insight thresher can be upgraded to infinity once I get the necessary hr, but I couldn't upgrade the infinity to superior infinity.
