If your wanting the extra str so you can also swap out lionheart, I would suggest trying the gaze/lionheart set up and see how it works out, but gaze's are cheap and its not hard to unsocket an item either so there is no point not to.

I am still a few str short w/ lionheart, and a lot of ppl say that it is better than shaftstop (20% enh dmg, and more +hp). My gaze is low, but its eth. I suppose the fact that it's eth doesnt matter much since its so low, and that just helps armor, which doesnt help all that much.

I got a perfect (but non eth) guardian angel today. Should I trade it, or put it on my merc? the +15 max all resistances is nice, but his actual resists go down with it on. How can I keep all his max resists up with it on?

Ive been thinking about getting him andys visage mask, is it good on mercs?

As your merc levels he will have no problems with res, but there are certain things in the game that he takes extra dmg from(hdyras come to mind). I would leave gaze on him for the leech/DR if your not going to use shaft.

at lvl 85 in hell without any +resist, he had 49 resist all. how much does it increase each level?

act 5 lawbringer mercenary is what i use, and so far i have found it most usefull of them all.

Sure, the defience or holy freeze auras are nice, however i only had problems with undeads in hell (souls, those iron maiden bastards, the corpse exploding small minions etc etc). The sanctuary aura is godly against such mobs, and the decrepify casted on all types of monsters is even better.
