where to put empty egg shells

One of my wifes pet-peaves is she hates when I put the empty egg shell back in the egg carton. I dont understand her about this; it is the perfect spot for it unless there is a trash can rite under you. but still i dont understand the big problem. So I ask all you out there. Where do you put the empty shell?

It goes in the paper bag with the rest of the egg shells, then once there are enough in there, my wife breaks them up with a hammer and scatters them over the flowerbed to keep away slugs, squirrels and other pests.

I keep a garbage can right near the sink/stove area. I throw them out right after I crack them open. I like the garden idea though.

Yeah, slugs don't crawl on egg shells (soft bodies + sharp edges = dead things) and squirrels don't like to dig through sharp edges either. (Hurts their little paws. Awww. *whacks squirrel with a left-handed 7 iron*)

you shouldn't put them back in the carton (unles you are using the entire carton) because of that little bug called e-coli. Put them in the sink (easily washed) or the garbage (tossed out) or rinse them and save for the garden for an organic flower/food source.

I save the cartons to help start fires.

I keep empty cereal boxes, n brown paper bags - line the box with the bag, and stick all the wet garbage stuffs in there.

The bin. I would also be annoyed if someone put the egg shell back in the carton, how do you stop the remainder of the egg white dripping in the carton?

I for one put the egg carton back in the fridge before I even use the egg(s).

My mom does the same thing with crushing and slug killing.

I think it's pretty much unanimous here, you're just lazy.

I throw my shells in the trash can. It's only a few feet away, so might as well.

I don't eat eggs. Thus there is no shell to throw out.

...although that dosent explain why there are four cartons in the fridge.

I'm Dutch so I put the carton in the box for "old paper" which is collected separately here.
Eggshells I throw in the bin, immediately.
If you have a garden you can use it if your soil needs extra calcium.

    Into the trash post haste!

I had a roommate who put the shells back in the carton...I used him as garden fertilizer.

Any I thought it was bad that my wife leaves them in the sink (we don't have a garbage disposal).
