Seems the pits worked a lot better for me tbh, in cows I found runes/charms, and in the pits I got a lot of whites/greys.

Maybe the cow level gives a different chance for items to drop as exceptional/elite than other areas in hell diff? I find plenty of weapons and armor there, but very little of it is elite.

I have tried it numerous times, and I get the same feeling. Lots of chipped gems, El-runes and Quilted Armors, that you just don't find in other hell-areas. Or maybe we are just unlucky sods :girly:.

Pubby Baal games maybe? I followed a crew for a few games last week, and picked up a 39 @res Sacred Rondache. Good enough for me to make a Spirit out of at this point. Just gotta be quick on the click in there.

I'm sure it does, and I have done the same. But eventually you will reach a point, where you need max block (without having to pump dex through the roof), decent smite damage (especially with a vanquisher build) and the added defence of an elite shield. This will of course be even more of an issue in PvP.I found a +45 res normal pally shield in Hell cows,
Works fine for spirit on a hammerdin

Just a few minutes ago: 43 @res Sacred Targe, Armor rack to the left of Meph
I like that rack - got my only white monarch of the season from that same rack.
I've been told that the armor rack in the Countess' basement is good for STs to drop as well.

I've found 1 eth [email protected] sacred targe, 1 [email protected] sacred targe, 3 40+ sacred targes and a crapload of other elite paly shields with 40+res this ladder.
But...I won't tell you all were I find them so fast, not untill the prices drop a bit this ladder

Man, i like meph runs: i found, in the last 10 days, 2 nice shields: 179 def + 38 all resists + 4os (droped form monster) /// 159 def + 30 all res (armor rack). I konow that is not 40+, but are good ones...

hell cows with small MF ammounts is the way to go. I found a 3 socket 15% ed archon plate with a barbarian who's only mf comes from a last wish. Hell cows and a little bit of luck has always worked out for me, in my search for white socketed/socketable items.

I have been looking for this post for awhile now. I am in the same boat. I am in hell on my hammerdin and i have HORRIBLE gear. I can never find drops, period. I can suck down potions and get my way through pretty much everything but my defense is horrible and my resists are horrible. I got the wizardspike for some resists but no HoZ so i've been looking for some socketed gear for added resists plus defense ( my block is at 75% however)
So a couple noob questions on this...
What are the pits?
And what is a 'white' item? I am assuming its not refering to the no socket no stats trash that drops or am i wrong and people are somehow socketing them other than the socket quest?
