When do monster auras change?

I didn't realize until recently that sometimes a given aura-enchanted boss will change its aura. It doesn't seem to happen often but I know I've seen it a few times, usually after going back to town and coming back after a while. For example, a Holy Freeze aura-enchanted boss will change into a Fanaticism aura-enchanted boss- something like that with all the mods the same. Does anyone know under what circumstances such monster auras can change?

It only applies to superuniques, and changes can happen if you leave the area for a while.

Great, thanks so much for the info and the quick response. I couldn't get an ordinary boss to change his aura by leaving and now I know why!
