    Whats this?

Me and a friend was talking over msn for a few min ago, and he send me the stats of his upgraded shaft, thats he gonna use on his hc char.

    Shaftstop
    Boneweave
    'Um'
    Defense: 1256
    Durability: 45 of 45
    Required Strength: 158
    Required Level: 54
    Item Version: 1.10 Expansion
    Item Level: **
    Fingerprint: 0xd9d60dfe
    +60 to Life
    +183% Enhanced Defense
    +250 Defense vs. Missile
    Damage Reduced by 30%
    All Resistances +15
    Required Level +7
    Socketed (1: 1 used)

Now, take a look on the line over socketed... Wt is that? we looked in game to see if same stat occured there but nothing, so what is that and what does it mean? Anyone know?

Vaguely speaking, that's what happens most (if not all) of the time when you upgrade an item.

Never seen that before. But I do believe that upgrading an Elite Unique does add around 7 levels... It could also be an ATMA hiccup. Maybe Doc or Shivan could shed some more light?

it is because youve upgraded it to a shaftstop. its nothing wrong with ATMA. when you upgrade it adds 7 to the req lvl.

That's a given, but I believe what he's asking is not why the required level is higher, but rather why that second to last line "+7 to required level" is there.

I think it is just because ATMA will let you know that the shaftstop is gunna have a req lvl of 7 higher than a non upgraded one. it doesnt show that in the game, it just does it. it isnt a problem with ATMA its just a helpful utility.

    That is just normal

When you upgrade normal to exceptional it adds +5 to req lvl, when exceptional to elite it is +7

For example if you upgrade Chance Guards from chain gloves to heavy bracers, it takes the lvl req of basic white heavy bracers and add 5 to top of that (25+5=30). If you upgrade them to elite (vambraces) it again takes the req lvl of basic vambraces and adds 7 to that (51+7=58)

Im not 100% sure though but this is how I have figured it out

At least it is not ATMAs fault :p

AFAIK it's basically just a hidden mod. ATMA shows it, the game doesn't. Much like boot damage.

Does this mean a upgraded item has a higher level requirement then if you found identical mods on the regular version of the item?

Ie If I found a rare with +2 skill tree +resist all +life and upgraded it to an elite and then found the elite version with +2 skill tree +resist all +life. That the one I upgraded would require a higher level then the one I found.

or is this compensated by the higher class item anyways?

Yep, the upgrade adds a hidden mod '+ to level requirement' to the item, so it will have a higher level requirement than if it had spawned on the higher item type originally.

The chance of finding just the right mods on the right item type are slim, so the upgrade 'penalty' is a means of stacking the odds in your favour.
