Well considering EQ2 isn't even out in beta, I don't see how answering this question is really possible. But if you played EQ1, I can safely tell you right now that you will not be able to solo through the game, except maybe under special circumstances. EQ and D2 are not really even comparable imo.

Simple, with Diablo II you can turn off the computer and walk away when you need to work, eat, sleep, do things with your family, etc.

With Everquest2 you cannot.

Naturally, I prefer D2...

<---3 years of Evercrack.

D2 is repetitive but at least it's fast and repetitive. With Neverquest you can spend days -- if not weeks -- toiling over the same quest just to get a cracked vase or some other piece of crap at the end (or better yet -- the cracked vase that becomes the green rock that becomes the mermaid's breath that becomes the rat fur brassiere that becomes Yo Mamma's Kitchen Sink +1 -- you follow?). Then consider the fact that you're paying $12 a month ...

If you 'don't wanna devote all your time into the game' then Everschlock is definately not for you ... or any MMORPG for that matter. If you want to try it out, your first month of play is free. Of course, the catch is you still have to spend $500000000000 buying the game and its endless catalogue of expansions -- then download about 3 hours worth of patches.

[/unbaised opinion]
