whatever happened to wendigos?

Hi,

When I first played dii, in the den of evil there were yeti type beasts called wendigos.... where there are now gargantuan beasts.

They ain't there no more.

What happened? Did Blizz decide they were too weak and replace them with the Gargantuan beasts? When was the change made?

I believe this change over occurred in 1.1 - but don't quote me.

I really don't take notice of monster names unless they can hurt me eg black souls

I think that the Gargantuan Beast is simply a member of the Wendigo family of monsters. I don't remember seeing a member actually called a Wendigo, but if they were in the den of evil, they should have been pretty much the same as the GB's that are there now.

according to the official Diablo 2 strategy guide (pre-LoD), 'Wendigo' is the name of the family of monsters that includes: Gargantuan Beast, Brute, Yeti, Crusher and Wailing Beast. so there never was an individual montser named 'wendigo'
