What to socket in an Eth Bonehew ?

    Hello,

I am using an Eth Bonehew for my Act2 HF Merc.

I am wondering what to socket in it, to obtain best killing efficiency.
Shael Shael, to increase speed ?
ED jewels (although I do not have any too good ones) ?
    any other options ?

    Thanks for your ideas.

Double Amn and your merc will hardly ever die.
Or combinations of the above, such as Amn + Shael or Shael + ED.

It depends on the IAS and leech provided by the rest of his equipment.

This question has been asked many times.
It all depends on the gear your mercenary wears (armor / helm).

    The IAS breakpoint are :

    Code:
    Character Mercenary - Act 2
    Weapon Ogre Axe / Ogeraxt
    Skill Jab
IAS Frames per attack Attacks per second
    0 % 8 3.1
    9 % 7.5 3.3
    20 % 7 3.5
    37 % 6.5 3.8
    65 % 6 4.1
    105 % 5.5 4.5
    200 % 5 5
    (with no fanaticism)

So with Andy's Visage he already reaches the 20% IAS breakpoint. If you want to reach the next breakpoint, go for SHAEL SHAEL (40% IAS). Otherwise, AMN AMN is a nice choice too.

If your merc wears another helm, you'll have to rethink your build regarding to IAS breakpoints.

Thanks.. and other IAS questions !

Thanks to you all for the replies, and sorry for the repetition.

I probably did not look at the right place, or made the right searches.

btw, is there any single place where IAS breakpoints are provided ? I know about those for bows and crossbows, for example, but I could not find for other weapons.

Maybe it is just a silly question. Is it even feasible to have it in a single place ? I know it depends on the WSM, but what are other elements affecting those breakpoints ? How do they compare for different weapon types with same WSM ?

Coming back to my merc, it is a non-ladder merc and I don't have an Andariel's in NL. The helm is an Eth vampire gaze. But I should be able to manage with the data given above. Thanks again.

The weapon speed calculator from here will answer all your IAS questions, I guess.

as a personal opinion, i almost never shael my merc weapons. those guys spend so much time wandering around like theyre lost that it hardly seems worth it. why make all that effort to get a 1 frame increase in attack speed, when it takes them two seconds to find a monster? also, unless your mercenary is a really high level (like 90ish or something...cant remember just now) hes unlikely to have the 185 str required to equip bonehew. so either you have to 'hel' it, or put on some str equipment. oh..and usually i hel/amn or amn/amn mine.

Well, I was mostly thinking of mob control, when there are so many monsters around. That's what I like my merc for. I thought that in such a case IAS might be interesting. But maybe not as much as ED, or better LL, as you suggested.

More IAS = More life leech = More ability for your merc to survive = More ability for you to survive  !
I have no problems with my merc, I usually teleport / place myself so that he's between the monsters and I. So that, if my merc doesn't go to the monsters, at least the monsters go to him  ! And usually, the monsters don't lose their time wandering around  !
