What to make?

I've played Diablo 2 before. A lot. I've had zealadins, Meteorb sorcs, skelemancers, yada yada...

I decided to start playing the ladder again recently and I want some ideas on an easy to level (seeing as my first guy will be untwinked mostly) yet effective MFer once I get up there. I'm thinking that a Meteorb sorc is the way to go, but I was wondering if this fishymancer I've been hearing about is as good as it sounds. I could give that a whirl.

Basically, I'm looking for something effective, easy to level, that I can MF with. Thx.

fishymance basically is the same skellymancer,
if i were u id go for meteorb sorc just because she has teleport skill

but is the meteorb sorc more dependent on gear? i don't mind speed issues terribly much, i kind of enjoy clearing an entire level in the process of MFing.

If speed isn't your goal and you want to clear levels to MF, then the Fishymancer is your best bet. He's also a bit safer than the Meteorb and can hold a little more MF overall.

Some good builds for getting started are:

Lightning trapper with a fireblast backup.

I recommend only a 1 point shadow master so you can invest more in synergies. You can shop for plus trap skill claws and plus shadow skill claws and plus shadow skills helms. Very survivable while wearing lots of magic find gear. She can run anwheres in the game (including Baal) but is best at area runs. Cloak of shadow + mind blast + shadow master = great crowd control and safety.

Dual element sorceress. I am parital to blizzard-firewall using glacial spike as the main synergy (for thee group freezing effect.) I love the freezing of GS.

Meteor-Orb is also good to start with.

I second the fishymancer if you are looking for safety and since you said you like to clear full levels. Once you get going it is fairly easy to get the teleport skill either in an amulet or on Naj's puzzler staff if you really find that running on foot is too slow.

My first char was a meteorb, really good mfer, can do keyruns and all bosses on hell and also has the teleport ^^

definitely go with hdin, its powerful and able to mf with enigma, also the hammerdin does not need good equipment to do heavy dmg, all u need is enigma and u can run andy, countess, summoner, and mephisto

Rather contradictory there isn't it?

Since this will be an untwinkled character a hammerdin probably isn't the best MFer to start off with. They work much better when twinkled with +skill equipment.

ahh your Mursilis, didn't know this was for untwinked, my bad.....in this case, just go for a lightning sorc if u want a mf character
