I'll also put my vote in for DV. Alot of people say its good for ranged attackers, which it is, but i also use it to control mobs. DV and decrep are the 2 curses I use always

Ummm.... I wasn't expecting all resists to be down the toilet, through the septic tank, and soaking into the leach field.

With those kinds of resists, you just plain will not be able to make it through Hell. Period. Not gonna happen. No way. Fuggedaboudit.

With enough pots and favorable monster spawns, you might make it to A3. But I don't think there's any way you'd make it to Mephisto. Either Bizzard from the Zakarumites, or Hydras from the Council, would do you in pretty quick.

I would start with a shield full of PDiamonds. 4os if you have the strength for a Monarch, otherwise a 3os Large Shield.

Next would be 'Smoke' armor if you have the runes. Otherwise 4os Gothic Plate (if you have the strength) or 3os Breast Plate, with your choice of Ort/Ral/Tal/Thul runes.

I finnished the game with resists in the -50's to -70s as a fishymancer, it's not hard at all, just running into trouble against gloams, I carried close to 300 MF all the way as well so managed to find a couple keepers, including a HoZ in act 2 hell

I stand corrected. Guess I need to actually try something before I state categorically whether or not it can be done. (Although, to be honest, running Hell with -60 avg res is not something I'm going to try for quite a while - if ever. :hide:)

Sorry for having given out false information.

And it's good to know that it actually can be done. Thanks.

When my first untwinked Fishy entered Act III Great Marsh of Hell, my lightning resistance was -60%. The gloams appeared, and shook the hell out of me. However I managed to do well, didn't die even once. Dim vision worked well there, but it didn't work on gloam bosses. There I had to improvise by using the terrain objects tactically. I would find a place to "hide" behind that tree, or just across the corner behind the walls, and that'd avoid the gloams.

Later on I found a wizzy, and a homunculus. Now resistances are never a problem anymore.

However, playing Hell with strongly negative resists may demand a lot of patience and strategy. I usually play with about zero resists and 518% mf, and press "w" to switch to wizzy and pdiamonded homunculus for max resists if gloams spawn.

homonculus rocks, if u get a 4s armor, ptopaz better than diamonds. Diamonds do ar in armors iirc ><
edit:got kinda excited to post

Yeah, I know a 4 ptopaz armor would be pretty good RIGHT NOW, but I think in a week I could have an enigma hehe!

I already have my Jah, just need to sell some of my things.

One vote to DV but it will depend on your play style for sure. Yes, DV won't shout down gloam boss. However, it is much easier to deal with one versus whole group of gloam (or black souls) :)

Slightly OT, even my poisonmancer benefits a lot from DV :)

After 6 Fishys, I finally settled on maxing DV, and then putting the rest into Bone Wall for the Bone Armor synergy. But then I'm basically a coward so I tend to concentrate on defensive skills. :prop:

I've never gone into the other Bone or Poison skills, but I'm sure others who have can tell you some things about those.
BTW, you play east ladder? I have few plain +3 necro summon ammy kicking around. I can give one free to you if you need.

A relatively cheap upgrade you can give yourself is an Obedience polearm for the merc (Hel Ko Thul Eth Fal). It'll shatter a body here and there, but helps get that initial body drop for CE, and really helps wreck Diablo/Baal. Any 5os elite polearm would be fine for it.

Interesting to watch the progression here - I purchased Homunc with the first pile of pgems for my Fishy as well. Huge help. Enigma is totally uber if you can get that Ber you need. Consider buying TGods if you want to run WSK a lot - if you're not quick enough on the DV, or run into boss souls, you'll live to tell the tale with that item and full lit res.

I'm waiting on a arioc+guillaume+shaftshop combination for my merc which should give it decent punch and survivability!

I just got a shako with ptopaz in it and a tal rasha's belt also. I might get a torch before the Ber as it seems less expensive and just as much of an upgrade in terms of power. But after I'm after the Ber completely!

I'm at 30/30 and it seems that every point after 20/20 makes MUCH more of a difference than before. From 28/29 to 30/30 my skeletons damage is 20% higher, although with might it's less than 20%. Also my CE is at 24, and it kills REALLY fast, I can't wait to have enigma and torch and have it at 29!

I'll also need a tgod before i do ubers..

Edit: I'll get an arm of king leoric before also haha... what do I socket in this one?

Actually you don't need to socket anything in it. You will use the arm of king Leoric to summon your army. After the summoning is complete, you should use some other weapon (Beast for fanaticism aura, Hoto or Wizardspike for resistances, Gull/Ali baba for magic find). You better get your Wizzy / Gull socketed if you really want!

Update: I got an Arm of King Leoric right after my last post.

Also I got a ber to go with my jah, I assume I can get an ith relatively easily. Now I just need a 3os archon plate!

You don't *have* to buy a 3 soc AP for it, unless you are really worried about resale...

Dusk is ok, Wire Fleece gives you those Red Pants.

I'm not too worried about resale since I think I'll keep my toons between sorc and necro, so I'll probably share 1 armor hahaha!

Ok ok, I better start looking for a cheaper armor and simple up my life!

I found a mage plate with decent armor and enigma'ed it, it's awesome :)

I was saving for a dusk shroud and was 1 pgem away and found it... guess it's going to go to my torch fund!!!

Hello,

My merc is currently using Guillaume's Face+Shaftshop+Arioc's Needle... I know it's not the best combo out there.

I don't rely on mages to kill (I don't even summon them.. should I?), my merc only get's 1 or 2 kills in per pack before I start exploding everything.

I want to run baal, pits and in the long run I'm thinking about ubers (can I even do this with my necro?). No Chaos Sanctuary as I hear my merc might die a lot if he has good damage... and I don't want to get 2 sets of gear for him.

I am reasonably well funded now and can look at buying somewhat good things and can probably get about anything that's not overkill 15HR's and such... I just don't know what to get!

Resists at 28/19/19/19 and 698 life (I kind of messed up the STR part! im at 195 buffed haha)

Also I'm now using:
Arm of King Leoric
Shako (ptopaz)
Enigma Mage Plate
Homunculus (pDiamond)
War Travs/Marrowalk
Tgods/Goldwrap
35 chancies
+16 resist all ring
+31 mf ring
+3 summoning amulet

19/15 necro torch
3% mf, 9% cold resist small charm
4% mf, 5% frw large charm

What should I consider getting besides an anni?

I'm at 28/19/19/19 resists, 698 hp (i badly distributed my stats... very badly... maybe once I have somewhat final gear I will restart to get better hp)

Someone recently quit playing D2 and left me a few things; I xferred a few of them to my own summoner. He's fairly well decked now and his minions' power level feels pretty good. Here's what he has right now:

Shako PTopaz
22 Mara's
AoKL
Scarab husk Enigma
Homunc, pdiamond
Trang's Gloves
Rare res/MF boots
Rare resist ring
SoJ
Thundergod's belt
Torch, 4x Summon skillers, resist and mana charms

Merc has: Obedience GPoleaxe, Andy's visage, eth Fort (this should really be CoH/Bramble, I think, but it was free -_-).

A lot of this is stuff you already have. I jacked up his Lit Res to the 85% limit from TGods - Souls are usually no big deal. He runs WSK like he owns the place. Baal goes down to cold/poision from mages, Slow from Gumby, Decrep from me and Crushing Blow from merc. Just tele the army right into his lap and Decrepify him, pretty much.

Ubers - I haven't done Trist proper with him. I ran the mini-ubers for an organ set though, and that went pretty well:

Duriel - Minions got a bit distracted by random monsters, this got Duriel focused on my merc who had to be resurrected a couple times. Once I got the army focused on the proper target, it was fine.

Izual - Tele'd around carefully, Revived random monsters along the way. Merc managed not to get IM'd and die. Izzy didn't stand a chance with 30 assorted skels, 19 revives, Gumby and Merc all pounding on him.

Lilith - Same. Merc managed not to get poisoned to death. I tele'd the army into a side room and Lilith happened to be in it - her first poison attack made my necro pretty ill, so he had to gulp a rejuvy, but the army quickly swamped her after that. She was pretty helpless.

Anyway - not trying to hijack here. Our toons are shaping up to be somehwhat similar, so I wanted to give you an idea of what to expect. Mini-ubers were frankly a lot easier than I thought they would be; I'd say you're about ready to give them a try.

You find skelly mages useful? I might get some for baal and such then!

Getting an anni today or tomorrow also... Some more resists!

I've enjoyed reading through seeing your necro's equipment upgrade bit by bit. There's nothing like finally getting your summoner enigma for the first time!

I notice your merc setup doesn't have any life leech, I'd recommend seeing if you can fit some in. Amning the ariocs if you're set on the +skills for extra might. Personally though I'd switch the ariocs for a more damaging weapon like eth thresher insight or obedience.

The other immediate area for possible attention would be you don't seem to be getting that much out of your weapon switch. Look to getting a beast (and later perhaps an infinity on the merc) to seriously improve your killing speed having summoned an army. In the mean time you may want something like wizardspike+spirit shield (seeing as you've overkilled a bit on the strength) for teleporting through areas in relative safety.
