What should I make Call to Arms in?

I'm finally able to make call to arms for a nice BO pre-buff. I want to be able to use it on a variety of characters, and I doubt it would ever be used to actually smack anything with. Im thinking phase blade or flail. My current charcters have the dex for phase blade... but maybe not always... flail has low req's but if i did want to wack something with it, it does minimal damage.

So, is there an accepted all-pupose base weapon to make Cta in?

All you have to do before you make it in an eth crystal sword or eth flail is ask yourself: "Can my economy afford another weapon to smack stuff with?"

The answer is most likely yes, some suggestions:

Oath (in eth elite axe or sword, mine is in Cryptic Sword and works wonders)
Different upped uniques (ribcracker, steeldriver, bonesnap all do very good)
Rares (they come in so many forms that it is pointless to elaborate)
Honor (very nice in divine scepters with +skills)

many more cheap options out there.

???????????????????? You just lost me, LOL. I dont need an oath... im making a Call to arms for a switch weapon that goes on either a tal rasha sorc or a trang necro, just for the Battle orders skill.

What is the benefit of making a rune word in an ethereal weapon that i dont intend to wack anything with? It looks cooler?

I make all my CtAs in Crystal Swords or Flails for the low requirements. If you need something to whack stuff with, stick with Grief or BOTD. As for the etherealness, some like to make CtA in eth weapons, which have lower requirements and looks better.

Ok, thanks. Crystal sword definatley better looking than a flail, so I'll go with that. Ethereal may look cooler, but that still makes me nervous... have to be non-ethereal for me.

it's ez to get 43 str so yeah, I'd rather make it in a non-eth crystal sword regardless of how much more worth is in eth items.

At least looks like a real weapon not a Wal-Mart toy sword :).
