what should i get next? forty or grief ba

    hi guys,

i'm currently sporting this setup on a WW barb (respec'ed from frenzy):

    - arreats 'um'
    - edeath zerker
    - lightsaber :whistling: / pb lawbringer
    - treachery wirefleece
    - laying of hands
    - gore rider
    - string of ears
    - raven (204/20)
    - rare life leech ring
    - highlords

i have axe mastery maxed but i dont have any high dmg axe so i'm using a one of the two phaseblades...

i intend to do trav, cows and pits (obviously ubers are not possible with WW as lifetap doesnt proc).

my AR is horrible (5,7k) and my dmg is about 4k. not the fastest killer in a 8ppl game (using might merc with reapers).

what do you guys think should be my next upgrade? should i get rid of the edeath due to the lack of speed? make grief in a ba or pb?

any input would be greatly appreciated ^^

Grief vs Fort is a common debate and it can be boiled down to what sort of characters you want to play. Fort is useful on just about every melee character, while Grief is a bit more specific, but helps a lot more.

On a WW Barb, Grief will give you a bigger boost than Fort, especially in Trav/Pits.

Regarding bases, if it were me, I would get/make a Grief PB and get/make an Oath Balrog Blade. The reason being you never need to repair Phase Blades and they always hit the last WW breakpoint with Grief. Oath because it is cheap and effective.

You may also want to consider an armor besides Treachery. The ias doesn't effect your WW speed. Lionheart and Smoke both work well and are cheap.

No to fort! If enigma is at all on the horizon, it is the superior armor for nearly all situations(especially coupled with reapers merc for efficient decrep placement)

@ doctor clock: I looked through my mules and found an eth balrog blade. larzuk should be able to punch 4 holes for me. a 5os pb is also available.

the treachery armor gives me fade -> looks nice, 10% dr and a bit of resists.
I'll look into the alternatives Lionheart and Smoke.

@ zrk: I should try it as I have an enigma ^^

@ nurman: I also prefer to hack and slay everything rather than babysit... but I'll see if using enigma can result in a higher killing speed due to decrep.

furthermore.. how do you guys deal with manaburners? just use conc? dmg to mana items?

Even with just a couple of % of mana steal you can usually whirl through them and keep your mana up. If they do get you to 0 mana just run away from the pack, drink a mana pot, run towards them again but start to whirl before you reach them. Higher defense obviously helps, and you can also use war cry.

There's really no reason to switch to another armor. It can be annoying when you're up against a gloam pack and fade isn't procced, but the ias does help when you use berserk. You could make smoke but it's up to you. If it's gonna be a while before you get another Lo you could also look into Gloom, it's more expensive but the defense is nice.

No self-respecting barb should need merc under any circumstance! Anyway, for WW I would ditch the death (give it to me please!) and get ebotdz+beastz. Seriously for pvm grief is not needed and the other combo is a more fun!

Some people consider killing stuff fast fun, and grief does that better(especially with low AR). Same thing with might + reaper merc, and enigma. And babysitting a merc with reaper? please...

Yeah, its a no brainer. Try any run with it or without(and at least arach for fcr too to be fair) and youll see the differences in time

enigma is fantastic on a barb. i love rushing with my zerkers, they're very well suited to it.

    they:
-share the fastest cast rate in the game with sorcs
    -have fantastic crowd control
-high natural life and the ability to share the life with whomever they are rushing
-kill single targets (bosses) pretty fast

they also have heavier gear so gain a lot from the strength boost on enigma.

I put Enigma on a Berserk barb and it worked really well. (I was copying CDM's build :D) 2 Wizardspikes on switch, but 2 HOTOs or 2 Spirits would be better.

For WW, I'd use Fortitude. If you need to "position", just WW there.

Enigma + Hoto does make sense =)

But how could you turn down forti's insane damage boost?

and it takes more time. and you wont get decrep on monsters and merc dps as much.

Even WW barbs, with a decent setup, have around 1500 ED in pvm.. the extra 200 ED from fort would act as a 12.5% damage bonus. Not a whole lot, given that it would have to compensate the by far faster travel speed, more merc decrep, more merc dps.

Isn't an influence on this argument Grief vs Beast/eBoTD?

Grief gets a much larger bonus from Forts ED doesn't it?

I guess it also depends on the build of the barb, whether they've gone titan or vita.

Easy. Single Boss kills, especially Baal, are much faster when you tele on top of him, while having a Reapers merc. Not to mention your getting down there at insane speed with FCR weapons + other items. (also one reason why I prefer ebotdz/beast = no need for other leach items)

Sounds nerfed but it really isn't. Any ebotd is a powerful PvM weapon even though it isn't as damaging as Greif. I have all the axes in my stash and all the armors available and yet, I still prefer the combo of the items because it suits me just fine.

A pair of greif phases blades/Fort as the wrecking ball damage is the clear winner. However, I don't find it more useful based on play style.

As for myself, I prefer cleaning Chaos Sanctuary, so teleportation will not speed that up much. ;)
